Lasers during Riots

I saw it on the TV .... unbelievable :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow
Here in the UK, just like guns, then locking knives .... they will be made illegal :sigh:

all things considered id rather get hit with a laser pointer than a glass bottle filled with flaming gasoline...

We get lased from time to time--I have been. The context wasn't a riot--I was just in the area and somebody painted me with a red laser.

Police helicopters seem to get lased often based on newspaper reports. Those fools actually get caught and sentenced to years in prison.

Frankly, I agree that a laser is among the least worrisome things to deal with in a riot. By the time you have considered snipers, molotov cocktails, gasoline soaked rocks lit on fire, cherry bombs in glass bottles, frozen water bottles and fruit, slingshots shooting marbles, nail studded tennis balls, urine (or chemical) filled glass bottles, paintball guns, sticks and metal bars and politicians, prosecutors or police chiefs siding with the rioters against officers on the streets, I'd welcome a laser.

Just a matter of time until this was applied this way...

This is when the police need to pull out the high out-put, RF projector that makes your skin heat up instantly at 200meters. The U.S army has a couple they are testing now.

In the States law enforcement officers can assume probable cause that when a laser is pointed at them that the other end is likely attached to a rifle.

The protestors here are complaining about what again?

Not so sure that a laser is automatically objectively reasonable belief (the standard to use deadly force) that a gun is attached in the U.S. Most lasers are not aiming devices, and are often used for pranks or harassment.

Then again, I talked to a LAPD Metro sergeant who shot a punk with a laser equipped Glock.

Lots of uncertainties in LE and anti terror duties. Get burned alive or go to jail--gotta love those choices. Interesting how the first Athens cop chose jail, the next one chose immolation. Maybe calling in sick will be the 'outside-the-box' solution.

If someone can incapacitate an officer then they have access to our weapons including deadly force and so their actions constitute deadly force.

If someone ever pointed one of Taser International's self defense tasers at me they would get a bullet as I know that the device can easily incapacitate me for up to 30 seconds with one shot.

If someone is firing off a blinding and potentially permanently damaging light into my eyes a deadly response might not be far off.

And this thread ... while a worthwhile topic ... has reached the end of its usefulness as it entered political territory.
