LCD monitor

I've been using my LG 563 LE lcd monitor for more than 5 years, never have problem. Since few months ago I started seeing this lighter colour spots (what is the right term ?) on the right edge screen. They seem expanding from time to time.

What actually happen to this monitor ? Getting old ? Any cure ?
These thing happen to all lcd monitor ?
