Hitachi Maxell Ltd developed a new product to be added to its alkaline battery line "Voltage," which employs the "zero-leakage design" to prevent liquid leak due to over-discharge, etc.

The new product (also called "Voltage") will be released April 1, 2009. The company developed a new zinc alloy to reduce the amount of residual, undischarged zinc, which causes leakage.

personally I don't buy that a battery can be made *leak free*, but maybe one can be made to leak a lot less. I haven't seen these batteries on the market either.... anyone seen them?

Given the release date, is this just a very early attempt at humor?

I stumbled across the article searching for stuff about leaking alkaline batteries. Either the batteries don't work or they are not cost effective to market them or they are still working on getting them to market.
