LED conversion for yellow Rayovac/Energizer industrial lights?

Can anyone tell me if there is either an LED version of those "heavy duty" yellow industrial flashlights or if there is a conversion lamp/kit available for these? The ones I'm speaking of are those big, clunky safety yellow-colored 2 and 3 D-cell lights made by Rayovac and Energizer.

I'm not requiring a whole lot of power in this LED need, only something long running. It's use will be for direction of traffic with the attachment of a red safety wand. I use this setup quite frequently and going through constant changes of D cell batteries, not to mention carrying spares around, is a big pain sometimes.

Anyone with info on what I'm looking for would be greatly appreciated for his/her input.

Thanks.

SMJLED $7 from lighthound

15 lumens and insane runtime that you can leave on for days.

SMJ for 2 cells only, the NiteIze 10mm PR dropin will work well in some lights for 3-6 cells. The beam pattern for the niteize is very light specific since it sits so low in the reflector. You might want to get one and try it in several lights to see what all it works in before you get more.

I modded 2 of these w SMJLeds and they work great. Tint is cool but useful and they are suprisingly bright. Runs aloonngg time too!

The Nite-Ize drop is pretty amazing: quickbeam also stopped the test on this one after 24 hours, pretty loooong batt life. Sadly, I tried to put it in a Rayovac yellow industrial 2D, and it was totally worthless: it looked like a M*g that was totally defocused. However, I am thinking, if it is in a wand, maybe that's OK?

The NiteIze just depends on where it sits in the particular reflector in the light. It tends to sit lower than a krypton PR bulb, which doesn't work in some reflectors.

For best brightness though, it really needs 3+ cells, although it will work on even one cell.

Thanks guys. Anyone know if Radio Shack carries drop in led modules for a quick, round-the-corner trip mod?

If not, guess I'll have to order online.

Thanks again!

+ 1 on Roymail's recommendation !

Just beware -- only use 'em in 2-cell flashlights !

Otherwise, they'll go :poof:

Good Luck, and Stay Safe !

The SMJLED focus the best but can only work with 2 cell lights.

The Tektite bulbs also focus well but have artifacts. LPR-2 - 2 cell, LPR-3 3 cell, LPR-113 4 cell.

The Terralux TLE-20 comes in 2 parts - a minimag module and a PR adapter. I have had the module fall off the adapter. Focus well.

Most of the others do not focus well (donut hole) unless you are using a faceted reflector or adding a diffuser to the front of the lens. Adding a diffuser gives a big blob of light but useful throw is down to 5 feet or less with these low powered bulbs.

The Mag LED upgrade module and Terralux TLE-6EX are too fat to fit in most flashlights. Mags only'

Does anybody know by any chance if the bulb in this light is a PR Base module?

BTW - I ordered two of those LED modules from Lighthound! Thanks for the lead guys.
