What is the most efficient way to get 1200 lumins...I was thinking about the SST90 but now I'm thinking they are all the same, so maybe an SST50 ?

And I want it running about 6 hours a day.

60 XPG R5s run at 50mA.
1200lm from under 10W
The ability to boost to 21klm
Can't go wrong
:hitit:

To make it even more efficient you could also use solar panels to charge up some batteries and have it run off that. You probably wouldn't even have to hook it up to mains power.

Nope, these are power leds, not to be confused with the small 3mm or 5mm leds. Oh, and these things become less efficient if you put more current through 'em. That's why znomit advices a truckload of high-efficiency (R5 is the best you can get now, although at a price), at low load. I personally would go for about 100-200 mA, where they are still efficient, and you need less leds. (XP-G doesn't drop that hard in efficiency when amps go up... under say 150 mA an olde XP-E might win)

Besides : what do you want to use em for? Should it be focussed? Compact?

SSTs have the same efficiency problem, so if you can, grab 2 SST-90s and go parallel ;) Whether that creates more problems than it solves, is up to you.

Its just another one of Jawnns many drive by "ultimate/bike/trike/motorcycle light " threads.

I just wonder if you two guys consider your selfs as "trolls" ?

I don't have regular access to the internet , so I can't be on your questions all the time....

Jawnn with all respect many, including me, have offered you advice. You post very similar questions again and again in different threads in different forums (you have 96 posts and have started 46 new threads, most cover roughly the same topics). If you would take the time to accurately describe what you want to achieve, some pics of you bike/trike/motorcycle whatever it is, what conditions you ride in, how far and how often. Then come back a day later and respond to comments. Maybe we could achieve something.

My understanding is you currently run a magicshine, and you can't see adequately 20 feet in front of you with it. Is this correct?
Maybe stick to your thread here which is on the same topic.
