I suspect that all LED's are made in China at this time.

Are there any LED flashlights made in the USA from components fabricated in the USA?

There are many USA made flashlights. Some may use certain parts such emitters or circuit board components made elsewhere though. Off hand I can't think of any that promise that every single piece is 100% US made. If any, I would think small shops like HDS or Peak might be as close as you'll get.

Like everything else. I Don't like it either.

Just remember the Chinese control things here simply by us not making products domestically, example, they control Christmas...all they have to do is not send us lights and decorations.

I really hope the virus will change this.

What possible connection does this have to the OP's query. :ironic:
Please note the current discussion subforum, thank you in advance.

Im not sure that is correct...
I think Cree is owned by a USA company (but they may outsource)
Nichia LEDs are from Japan
Korea also produces LEDs

If you want a light with 100% USA parts, I believe Maglite makes that claim. I suggest you contact them to confirm.

Hi nbp; I seem to recall we had a thread on this topic relatively recently; I did a brief look but perhaps you might be able to find it better than I ? :)

Here's a recent, though not exhaustive, thread to get one started. There are many more threads on this topic with some searching.

Also, as that thread notes, like many companies, some flashlight makers have certain lines that are made in the US but outsource their lower end models.

This article Indicates that Cree makes their emitters in North Carolina, but has other products made or assembled in their Chinese factory. So we know that at least SOME of the LEDs out there are USA sourced.

Nichia's LEDs are made in Japan. Samsung's LEDs are made in Korea. Osram's are made in Malaysia and China.

Cree's are made in several countries. I suspect they do the most proprietary parts (wafer growth and phosphor blending) in the US and the labor intensive parts in China. The development of their Chinese facility also appeared to coincide with a decrease in knockoffs and trademark abuse but that could be a coincidence.

Good info.

Cree products are born in the US or Germany. They are "pacakaged" there and other places including China. What "packaged" means? I dunno.

Maglite changed their verbage to Built in USA since some of their components come from China. Things like springs and lanyards. Elzetta still uses the term "made in USA", which from a legal sense would mean everything in them are US sourced parts.

For those of you interested in domestic (USA) flaslights, do you also use domestic Batteries?

Which Batteries are Made in USA?

yes, surefire CR123 primaries, are stated to be Made in USA on the surefire site..

Is there a USA made LiIon option as well?

Jon,

I Don't know but have you ever heard of a store called Batteries + Bulbs?

They are a walk in brick and mortar store, and they sell every kind of battery from big truck, golf cart, down to watch batteries. They also can get any bulb you need. At our desert home I use 17 different kinds of lightbulbs to light everything the way I like it, and they had some bulbs I use that are very hard to find.

They were very knowledgeable as well.

Maybe give them a try.

Best,

RL

How about Malkoff?

Yes, perhaps. I was just giving examples. My point was that small makers that sell at a higher price point are probably more likely to be able to and choose to domestically source parts than a large maker selling cheaper lights who might choose to import certain things. I don't know, just a thought.

That refers to the final step where the die is mounted on a substrate and wired up and protected with an encapsulation compound.

Part of LED packaging are simpler than IC packaging. Less wires for example. Other parts are more complicated - high wattages and optical clarity.
