LED upgrade/mod for HuntLight FT-01XSE?

If you have some soldering skills, the LED is very easy to get to and any of the higher binned XR-Es from Cree will make that light very, very bright. I recall the circuit sends close to 1 amp to the emitter.

by looking into my FT01XSE light engine,it is not easy to swap the LED because the driver is loctite in the head section.
Trying to remove the emitter is one difficult task.
Mounting a new emitter is another .
Unless one can drill out the light engine and put a Cree dropins in it.

I have an FT01PJ which looks pretty similar. The light engine simply unscrews into two pieces, making the LED easily replaceable. I replaced the Lux with an SSC P4 some time ago. You might check to see if the engine comes apart as easily in the XSE.

That's what I had also, maybe the XSE model different.

I want to keep the existing reflector and the engine is OK (as for the click troughs). I did just take the engine out and popped in my cree drop-in, but that's not what I'm looking for. So, a new LED can soldered to the engine? Just un-solder the existing and replace with a new one?

Here is the drop-in I popped into it. I guess other drop-ins might be better, though.
