Hello to all,

I need some expert advise, I have a VTAC light mount on my daniel defense rail and want to purchase or build the best light I can afford but yet it has to be tough. I am getting ready to attend a patrol rifle instructor school with my M4 and it will need a light on it.

I have somewhere between $75-$125.00 to spend right now. I want to purchase the best light I can afford the first time around. It will have to handle being thrown around, used on a weapon being fired a lot (min. 1000 rounds for this class, used on patrol afterwards) just a tough all around light with plenty of power within my price range.

There are so many different choices, I just thought some of you guys have been around and have the know how.

Thanks for any help!

I would consider a Surefire host with a Malkoff P60 dropin. It could be as simple as a 6P host using a standard 1" light mount and pressure switch (I have my G2 setup outfitted with Command arms mount and switch). We know the Surefire components are tough and Mr. Malkoff has shared that he's got a lot of guys with thousands of rounds through their Malkoff lights with no problems. He has also said that he will replace any Malkoff light that breaks even if the reason was that you strapped some C4 to it.

I'm considering switching my G2 setup over to an Eagletac T100C2 setup but I'm not recommending that here because to my knowledge it hasn't yet built up the long reputation of reliability that you seek.

Oops - nevermind about mount and pressure switch since you said you already have a VTAC. That just uses simple thumb activation right? If so then Surefire 6P + Malkoff M60 is easily in your price range.

Seem like the VTAC will also allow the use of the SF E-series lights. If so, the E2DL will be a good fit. If you look around, you can pick one up NIB well below you upper limit of $125. The E2DL will give you the same beam quality as the X300 and the M600 Scoutlight(KX2C) head. The E2DL will also accept the ST/UE tape switches.
