I have filed down several of them by just clamping the LED in my minivise padded with masking tape and using a small fine file. My workbench is in the basement and with a humidifier on the furnance I don't get any static problems at all.
The white ones file down nicely also the Nichia 20,800 mcd LEDs to get rid of the hourglass pattern works well.
