Ok this might sound kinda weird but I'm looking for a flashlight for home use that will allow me to light up the treeline in the backyard ~ 200m away. Currently I'm using a 3D maglight and it's ok but not great. The reason I'm interested in this is because I live in the country and am starting to have trouble with Coyotes and I want to be able to spot them.

Thanks.

first thought: read the other thread of yours .. heh. the tk20 might just be enough for you on this task too. but more is better. -maybe get one of those cheaper end HID spotlights to seriously put some light in there, (stanley hid is well liked in here)

also you might be interested in buying a led dropin into your maglite. just replace the bulb with something like Terralux tle-6ex.

or just wait till we start to corrupt you with all the cool and powerful lights that are available. (4sevens.com they offer alot of flashlights to think about.. and also you get 8% off the price because you are cpf user :) )

Home use and 200m-distant treelines are not the same light, IMO. For the latter type use I picked up a 6M candlepower Cyclops spotlight from Bass Pro. On sale for $15 or $20 at the time, couple years ago. Got one for my brother who lives 1000 miles away, too, and he called me and commented that if we got onto our roofs we could probably signal each other with those things. :naughty: If you really want to see something fun, check out the Microfire Warrior III. Hide your credit card first.

ok well i went in the backyard today and apparently i was really tired last night when I posted 200m LOL It's probably more like 60-70 meters. (half a football field) if that helps.

I'm going out a bit later to test a couple of my lights.

The "target" is about 300 feet from the road. I'll follow up if it works well or not.

The 2D Husky from Home Depot puts a lot of bright a long way down the road. $25 for a Cree that will easily light up 100 yards and if you're looking for eyes in the woods, it'll pick them out a lot further than that.

Sorta ugly but seems decently made. I have 2.

Get the Coleman 530 lumen rechargeable LED spotlight from Sears or Wal-Mart.com. This light has an extremely long runtime (rated at 2.5 hours) and is very powerful. I have owned it for a long time and can highly recommend it. It is an excellent thrower with a very wide hotspot.

How does that hold up to recharging? I had some kind of incandescent one and I left it charging overnight once by mistake and it was ruined :(

I have never had problems with it in that regard or any other way. I believe I once left it charging for over 24 hours by accident and it was just fine.

Cool deal. It's a nice looking light, think I might have to try that $24 Husky first and if that's not good enough I might need to step up to the bigger spotlight like that.

I own two of the Husky 2D lights, and they are very good for the price. The Coleman is still much brighter and more powerful than either of my Husky 2D lights, but the Husky might work just fine for your purpose and is an excellent choice.

Yeah for $25 can't beat that. Where I live it's not unheard of for power to go out in the summer. Too many trees near powerlines so flashlights are nice to have, that and walking at night it's nice to see the critters before you trip on them o_O

Hmmm, did a quick search and don't see the Husky 200 Lum light listed on Home Depot's website. Does anyone know if it's still available?

I see that you misjudged the range from 200 meters to just half a football field. In that case and good cree Q5 or R2 will do just fine. A quad die light like the Jetbeam M1X will give you even more light down range.

I believe it is. You can also get the Dorcy 220 lumen rechargeable LED flashlight from Sears or Amazon.com. This light will easily out throw even the most well focused Husky 2D and is brighter too.

I am sure that Jetbeam M1X that Patriot recommends would be excellent for your purpose too.
