Hello,
In 2006 I posted the thread "Lights for nocturnal walking around at home" it went as follows:
In the distant past, before I knew this forum, I always took a Maglite 2AAA with rechargables for walking around in my house in the dark: going to the bathroom, going to the kitchen, etc.

After having "the virus" for two years, I'm using different lights. In the beginning of flahaholism, I tried out the different new toys I came to acquire: Fenix L2T, SF L2, Led Lenser V6, Fenix E1, etc., etc.
Quickly I found out that I didn't like a bright light when waking up at night, I prefered a dimmer one that was easier on my sleepy eyes.

My nightwalkers finally seem to have become my Inova X1 green led, gen2 and a Peak Fujiyama SS HP 3red leds. These lights are amply bright and in a completely dark house allow you to see anything you need to see. Even the large living room poses no problems for these tiny marvels. The Inova is quite bright for a 5mm green led, while the Peak is rather dim. Depending on how much light I need, one of the two gets chosen.

So, I thought it might be interesting to relaunch this poll to see how these "nightwalkers" have evolved...

Kind regards,

Joris

Two SS Peak Fujiyama (1led and 3led) (other light is a 2AAA Pacific)

In the poll, I try to include some of the "old" lights as well.
Enjoy!

"Safe-Light'
I have been using one for two years and its great; always on the low setting, used high once. Easy to find with the 'idle' mode.

Arc HDS Basic 42XR with Surefire F04 is what I have used and still use from time to time.

Since getting the NiteCore D10 and EX10, I've been using the D10 with the homemade bottle water cap diffuser as well.

When I get up in the middle of the night, I like a REALLY low low and those are the only two lights I own that meed that requirement.

I used to use a Fenix L1/L2 light on low. Since I got my D10, I have been using that. Has the lowest low of any of my lights.

I use my Olight t10 with the aa battery tube. It seems to be a good all around light.Small, good runtime on the low and medium settings, and on high puts out enough light at a distance to make out far away objects.

Before bed every night i set my Gladius to one of the lowest settings and my MRV sits in my backpack right next to my bed to peek out at my truck whenever i get up (i live in a less friendly apartment complex and had some past issues :shakehead)

Red X5 using old largely depleted cells as my primary as it gives a nice very low output.

For bumps in the night usually a SF Kroma. Low red for moving about and hi white as needed. If it is a serious "bump" I'll also grab something like the Super Tac or U2 for additional power.

Whatever happen to be next to my pillow.
Right now it's an Elektrolumens 3C SSC-P7.
Click. Blink, BLINK. AWWWWW!!! I need a dimmer light.

Lately it's been my Novatac 120P set at 0.3 lumens, which is more than enough for my dark adapted eyes at night.

I have a Fenix E01, Arc-P, and a Streamlight Microstream headed my way, so any of those could take over the "late-at-night-walking-in-the-house" duty.

Nightstand light has been a Liteflux LF5 for a long time. Works perfect! It goes sooo low and has a perfect beam!

I either use a Novatac on a pretty low setting - 10 lux @ 1 meter, or I use a Liteflux LF2 at minimum - about 1 or 2 lux.

Novatac 120P on low low low!

Surefire 6p with M60F on high high high in case things go BUMP.

One of my requirements for an every day carry light is a low low, for just this reason - I am last to bed at night and use it to move about after turning out all the lights. Other than my Dereelight most of my lights could serve this purpose. My LF2 stays on my keyring so that doesn't get used, but my LF5 works fine in this capacity, as does my Jil JCR2IT as both are set to have a low low as the first position option. I've also been playing around with two new Peaks from the LED Guys sale - two Kilimanjaros, one with 3 red LEDS and one with 3 white LEDs. Both are good nightime and close up lights with long runtimes, bought mostly as backups for emergency use. But the red version is an excellent nighttime light particularly when waking up rather than navigating after turning out the lights before my eyes have adjusted.

But the overall winner is without question the Novatac 85P - I have it set to level 2 on the lowest setting and it is plenty of light for dark adjusted eyes, with primary set at about the level of the old Arc AAA for general use before my eyes have adjusted.

ETA: Interestingly, in 2006, my answer would have been quite similar as it would have been my HDS B42XRGT! Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose...

I use my bedside VB-16 multi-level for late nite nav. It has a very low (1/5 th lumen?) low at the 0 setting and anything else I need. Otherwise, my EDC (one of several 1AA Cree types) does fine, especially if I have to mouth it (I've wrapped electrical tape around their tails for that).
