Hello everyone, I am new here and have been looking over the forums and for some reason the search featue was not working correctly. Well I bought a coast cutlery focusing led that uses 3xAAA batteries. I then read that people dont really like them so I returned it. Since then I bought a LOD Rebel 80. I love it so far but now I would like something that is this quality and much brighter with long life that does not use those photo batteries. I prefer AA or AAA. I know it would have to have multiple batteries to have what I need. Thanks for any advice.

I have nothing but good things to say about my OLight T-15 Q5 , Fenix L1D-RB80, L2D-RB100, L2D-Q5, and older Streamlight ProPolymer 4AA Lux. All great lights that you would be very happy with.

I have just looked at the STREAMLIGHT 4AA LED PROPOLYMER. is the run time reall 155 hours at 67 lumens?

Looks like I might be getting the l2d-q5. Has all i need plus I can change the body and use it as a l1d. Looks like I have a winner.
Any promotions I an take advantage of for one of these?

You can find some discount codes here. Fenix-Store has an 8% coupon, iirc. Lighthound is one of my favorite dealers as well, and they offer Fedex/UPS shipping options if those are preferred.

Great choices.

No. The 67 lumens is the initial output, which the light will be at or near for four hours, then a l-o-n-g tail at reduced output out to 155 hours. The light is very efficient and decently bright, but 67 for 155 on 4AAs would require divine intervention.

What are you talking about? The L0D uses AAA's. Run it on a NiMH rechargeable and it will be fine. And why would you return a light because someone else didn't like it? If you liked it yourself, that is good enough. :D

Re an AA powered light that's a lot brighter than the L0D: all you can really do is get an L2DCE, I'm afraid. It is maybe 2x-3x the L0D's brightness. I personally don't like that light but I'm in a minority, so if you like the L0D, then the L2DCE will probably appeal to you too. (I switched from an L0D to an L0P). If the L2DCE isn't bright enough for you (and it might not be, if you want a powerful outdoor light) the only next step I can think of is talk to Milkyspit about a multi-led Mag mod (be ready to spend several hundred bucks) if you insist on staying with AA power and LED's. You could also consider a hotwire (incandescent) which would cost a lot less.

Good choice. I liked mine so much that I bought another, now the ONLY light of which I have two.

Looks like there is a good deal on a package at Fenix store that has L1D and P2D bodies. I can get that and just add a P2D stock bodies and should have the ability to use the combinations. Looks good to me. Think I am starting in a new addiction :s Thanks for the information everyone.

The Streamlight 4AA LED is different from the 4AA Luxon.

The 4AA Led has 7 direct drive Leds. And no you don't really get 155 hours of runtime at rated output. It drops quite a bit at the start then you get about 4.5 hours of good light on Alk. batteries.

The 4AA Luxon is well regulated at 3.5 hrs on Alk. Batteries (see review)

I have both. They are different types of lights. The Luxon has great throw the LED is more of a wall of light with not a great reach and works well for working in enclosed places where you want a wide diffused light.

The Powerpack would be a great thing to get. Not too throwy and not too floody, should be a great all around light.

I hope you like it!

:welcome:

Just noticed two other lights
NiteCore Defender Infinity
Proton PRO Flashlight
A bit more expensive but looks like they may be a good choice as well.

Victor_A , Welcome to cpf! It sounds like you are doing the right thing by looking at the reviews section.

Hopefully, this year will give us some more bright AA lights.

One of the brightest 2x AA lights is the Fenix L2D Q5: http://www.lighthound.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3123

However the P3D Q5 is a bit brighter. If using rechargeable RCR123A cells, this avoids any concern over battery cost or availability: http://www.lighthound.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3220

Also run time is much longer at similar output levels than a 2x AA light on alkalines. The L2D can run on NiMH rechargeable AAs which gives improved run time at high output levels. However if you're going to use rechargeables, then why not the P3D.

I have both L2D Q5 and P3D Q5. Overall I like the P3D a bit better -- it's shorter, more powerful, and on rechargeables the low level is dimmer. But both are great lights.

Thanks everyone for your information, i have decided I would get a Fenix 4 in 1 Power Pack. I think it would be easier for me to get this and if needed I can always get a new body and change flashlights this way. I am planning to get the rechargeable RCR123A batteries recommended earlier and see how I like these style of light. Maybe I will start getting this type of torch next. Thanks again everyone, I feel an addiction coming on :s
