hey guys what flashlight do you think has the longest runtime? here are the guidelines- output of at least a mini mag AA and not more than 6 batteries please sugggest lights that are also something that you could carry everyday /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

Take a look at my list of runtimes (time it takes to get to 50% of max brightness). The LW 4000 clocks in at 48 hours. The winner of those that I have plotted is the VIP on low power clocking in at 68 hours!

I got a cheap LED light that had a resistor in it running 4 LEDs at 15ma total off of 3AA alkalines. I bet it would run for close to 100 hours at half *dimness*.

I have a D-cell body for one of the Old ARC LS that could run on a single AA. It runs a really long time.

what you need is a guy with a 15 inch bicep, 3 6v lantern batteries in parallel driving a buck circuit on a single LED at 20ma. That should last probably a year.

The specification is at least as bright as a 2aa minimag. I'd put that at about 8 lumens, let's say 100 mA to a reasonably good led, or about 1/3 watt. You really want to carry a 6 battery light every day?! I'll presume that means six AA-sized cells and not six D's /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Lithium AA's are about 4 WH and six of them would be 24 WH, so 72 hours at 1/3 of a watt. Let's figure on a Downboy-like converter with some switching loss, so maybe you're in the 50 hour range. With alkaline AA's, maybe 30 hours, but much lower running costs.

More practically, the light you probably want is a Tektite Expedition 300 which has six or seven 5mm leds and runs on three alkaline C cells. It's about the length of a typical 2D household flashlight, but thinner. It will run 12-15 hours at good brightness followed by 100+ hours of gradually diminishing brightness below the Minimag level.

I have an old 3led PR bulb replacement bulb in a 3D cell maglight. I dont know the time to half brightness, but I know it is a looooong time!

IIRC, the runtime of an Arc4+/x on LOW is something like 16 days. On one 123A cell. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif When you need (or want) more light, just click or press for a higher light output.

The HDS EDC should be similar.

The Lionheart, according to a test run on the Reviews forum not too long ago, runs for 153 hours on low. That's darn near a week solid! Low output from the Lionheart is brighter than the output from my CMG Infinity Ultra - at least in the hotspot.

The light is very small (3 3/4" long, with a 1 1/4" bezel) and easily carried. It uses rechargable Pilas, too.

The longest running light i have is the Princeton Tec Impact. 150Hr run time, with a light that's quite bright due to the very finely made optics. It gives a very focused beam, but also allows some sidespill to light a trail at night, or other uses. Polycarbonate body, 4 AA's, long run time, bright light.....what else could you ask for?

Streamlight 3C-XP has 300 hours of runtime on the three 1-watt leds. It will stand on end and light up a dark room with ease.

Ok, you beat me. 3 1-watts? Nice. The thing about my flashlight that i like is that they have readily available cheap batteries and fit in the hand or mouth easily....but a brighter light would be nice. Although /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif the optics in this thing are great

*Correction my longest running flashlight is about 1200 hours. the Pak-lite with a lithium Battery. With a regular battery, it'd only be about 600 hours on low. 75 on high. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
