Not really interested in a floody light. Have the Minimus for all my floody needs. I am looking for a hunting headlamp where I need high lumens and a tight beam. $200 budget.

Was looking at the Zebralight H31 220 luments but I am nt sure about the type of beam or how durable a light it is... not bad at $60

Any help from the braintrust/hivemind

Check out the Fenix headband:

and match it with this:

The RRT control ring makes it very easy to change levels and the light is ...well... light when used in this fashion.

If you do go for this option make sure you use the appropriate discount codes, which I'm too lazy to look up right now. With the discounts you could actually buy two RRTs and take advantage of the dual mounts on the headband and still stay under your budget.

Anyhow I'm using this combo for a up coming kayak trip.

I would second the advice on the Fenix Hp-10. I use it for work when working under houses and in attic space when doing plumbing jobs. The beam is very tight with good throw and spill. For the price you will not be disappointed.

I use a Princeton Tec Apex Extreme or regular Apex for most of my hunting and outdoor activities. They both have good throw but with a wide enough beam for walking comfortably. The lower output led's have a good flood too, not as nice as the Saint's but not too bad either.

I'm sure there are headlamps with more throw out there but the Apex series has a combination of features that really fit my bill for outdoor use. The cost isn't so bad either with the standard Apex being about $65 and the extreme up around $90.

The River Rock 2-123 is the longest throwing headlamp I've found. Comes really close to my R2'd 6P. Used mine for the whole bow season last year. A few on here are using it as a bike light because of it's throwing ability.

Why didn't you guys like the H31/H51? I'm looking for one to wear while trail running or hiking. Wouldn't you choose the H31 for this role and his hunting role above?

Thanks,
Marathonman

the Magicshine bike light is fairly throwy for a P7
its a great deal at ~80$ from geomangear and has
pretty decent runtime

I think the H31 is pretty darn good for trail use too.

I bought the H31 just b/c it seemed too cheap to pass up. It is alot of light for you money. I'm waiting to c what hds comes up with. BTW the Magicshine bike light is very impressive and a great suggestion for the price.

I have the Magicshine too, and it's an amazing light for the money. Not really a thrower but it's so bright it illuminates things a long way off anyway. I walk around at night with my sled dog a lot, and like to be able to see animals at some distance, and it's great for that. I haven't yet had a chance to try out the River Rock, just ordered one to keep in Alaska.
