Looking for a new EDC light. Right now I have narrowed it down to these:

1. Boss 70
2. McGizmo Haiku
3. McGizmo Sundrop

I use the light for general stuff throughout the day but use it a lot when I get called out for power line restoration. I also like a the ability for moonlight mode if possible. Started with these three because I have not read hardly anything negative about them. I dislike cool tint.

Anybody have experience with these or any other suggestions? Thanks

ETA: Just looked into the Nitecore E4K but I cannot find any in stock.

Nitecore E4K.

Normally I do not reply to "Recommend me a light" topics, because they normally are posted in a forum section that I do not habituate. :)

Yes (to all of the above) but I think we'll need a little more to go on than just that list, to give you useful advice.

Maybe start with what you need (want?) your EDC light to do ....

How did you narrow down the thousands of potential flashlights down to those particular three ?

I started with a Haiku as my first custom EDC light, 3.5 years ago. I have since owned dozens of custom flashlights.(including several Sundrops and Boss 70's) They are all great lights, but I've sold nearly all my customs lights, but still own and EDC the Haiku! It's just so perfect as a EDC light!

Good points...I updated my post. As far as narrowing it down, it has been difficult and somewhat arbitrary considering the amount of good lights available. I could easily get caught up in analysis paralysis. That's why I am open to suggestion from you fine folks.

BOSS 70 is my favorite EDC. I have an aluminum version, it spends most of its time in a very rough work environment and has never failed me. Fits in my pocket perfectly and comfortably, easy to have at the ready. This light has been submerged in water, mud, dust, sewage, oil, grease ... nothing get in this lights way! I have never had more confidence in the durability of a flashlight than I have with a BOSS.
Absolutely amazing user interface, so customizable. Secondary led.

However it is not my favorite light, that would be an HDS Systems Rotary. I just don't EDC an HDS, I only carry an HDS when I'm not working. Personally that's my Rolex.

Which mode did you go with on the Boss?

I don't remember, you can customize it yourself once you get it.
It's optical programming from the Lux-RC website. The options and customization are pretty extensive.

I have it programmed now for Low, Medium, High and then Red Secondary.

This is my current set up...

I don't know what light is best for power line resto but what I do know is the HDS and BOSS platforms are amazing lights for those looking to customize. I have had around 10 HDS and still have three, along with a BOSS 70 and a "BOSS" Triple E Oveready build. Very flexible lights with a variety of options for almost any usage. On the other hand I also have two Haikus - they are another of my very favorite lights! So you have selected some excellent contenders. I guess I would need to know more about what you need and value in a work light to more accurately pin down which of those three lights would suit you best. SunDrops are super cool, I used to have one of those, but they are very niche lights. If you want one go for it, but I don't think it would suit your work environment well.

If you are considering McGizmo vs BOSS, one significant difference is ...

modularity vs power

Yes but there are e-series body available @ oveready in 18350 and 18650 style.

I have an aluminium Boss and an Haiku with superLE from tana.

The boss lacks the double tap for turbo/strobe you have with a h17f driver. But I like the secondary led of the lux RC engine even if not really powerfull.

They are both really nice, it depends on what you need. I'd say why not both ?

BOSS!!! super slim, very powerful and you program your own levels. For the price it's a bargain. That's why i have 2. In spite of tech involved, I think they're pretty solid and can take some abuse

BOSS Triple E Fun...

BOSS is an amazing light. If you need modularity, E series parts can do wonders. I dunno how much light you need but if you need big power or secondary color, this'll do it. If lower output and more specific programming shortcuts is needed, HDS. If lower output with max modularity and stunning aesthetics is the goal, McGizmo Haiku or maybe Mahi would be great.
