I have a solar outdoor lamp that I want to convert to ssc/cree led. I'm thinking maybe I can find a cheap $15 or less flashlight and take out the light module and use that.

I think the solar lamp output 2.7v, I measured by testing the + - wires while the original led was still attached. I don't want to cut them until I get a replacement.

The idea is to replace the cheap led with a ssc/cree. I assume I need a converter since the voltage is less than what ssc/cree likes. Lastly I'd prefer orange so it looks like a flame.

Any suggestions on a cheap flashlight that I can strip for parts or what I can use for my conversion? Thanks.

You can get bare LED's and driver components int he DIY section of DX.

Thanks! I forgot that DX had parts. Found an orange led that takes 2.25V - 2.5V.

I'm not sure if I'm even measuring the output from the solar lamp setup properly. Do I need to measure by connecting the multimeter to the + and - wires as it's connected to the led OR do I need to remove the led first before measuring?
