I have eneloops. I have seen the C and D sizes, for sale only with-in Japan.
What is a similar product (3-8A capacity, 3-5amp burst discharge) in C and D sizes? I'm hoping for 4 cells, possibly 6-8.

*I'm using up some of the parts I've accumulated building up a few different m@g mods. I'd like a light that can sit for a few weeks with-out going flat.

You can get 3000 mAh C & D Rayovac Hybrids are Wal-Mart for $13 for a 2 pack. I have confirmed the capacity with my C9000.

I have no idea if they can deliver the discharge power you need.
I use the D cells in a 2xD Rebel Mag.

onlybatteries dot com is in Montreal (but list USD prices) and sells the Accupower ones IHN mentioned.
Not sure if they are price competitive with Thomas Distributing though.

I just checked my Accupower D's that have been sitting in a Malkoff Triple modified maglite for 6+ months in the back of my truck... All 4 show 80% after repeated tests on my ZTS tester.

Not as good as the best claimed Eneloop performance, but I'm still happy.

Dennis.

BR, how well do the hybrids hold that charge after a few weeks?
Best,
Linger
They had 82% charge left after 3 months and I believe around 79% charge left after 6 months.

I'll check my spreadsheet this evening for the 6-month results.

Hey Linger,

To date I have purchased 30 of the AccuEvolution D cells and 12 of the AccuEvolution C cells. These cells are great cells, buy some you will not be disappointed. I ran into the same problem when looking for LSD cells of the C and D variety a while back. Also if you have the money get the MAHA MH-C808M charger for your cells. Use a little googlefoo in the forums on the AccuEvolution cells and you will see they perform extremely well. My personal advice is to stay away from the ACCUMANAGER charger that Accu-Power sells for these cells. Get the MAHA charger and never look back.

Fulgeo,
Thank-you for the reports on AccuEvolution D and C cells.
re: googlefoo - yeah I knew performance was good, but I learned that holding voltage at 3amp draw didn't necessarily mean the cell would still have a charge in 4 weeks :(

What is the biggest advantage from the maha mh-c808m to you?

I decided on the Turnigy Accucel-6 50W 5A Balancer/Charger a few months ago, and will order one soon. I'll be picking up some larger IMR and li-co cells as well. Balanced charging of a pack will be helpful as I move into the larger capacity builds.
(The Turnigy accucel is not the Accumanager you spoke against, is it? hobbyking seems to list separately so these seem to be different lines)

The Accumanager is a totally different charger.

I forsee an Accucel-6 in my future as well.

The Li-Ion cells are reproducing, but not at the same rate as the NiMh cells did :D

The MAHA charger has the ability to charge the D cells at 1.0 amp and at 2.0 amp which matches the white paper specifications of standard and fast charge on the AccuEvolution D cells. The ACCUMANAGER can only manage a 700 mA max charge rate. Also I have read of a few posts of the ACCUMANAGER chargers failing under use. As Black Rose pointed out the Accucel-6 is not the same charger. It is always good to have a hobby charger since they can handle different battery chemistries.

Happy Mods!

Hi folks,
I just wanted to comment that we've been selling the Accupower (now AccuEvolution) Accu20 chargers for years here at Sundance Solar and have had very few, if any, returned defective. We believe it to be a very high quality charger, and a great option for people who want to solar-charge C and D batteries. I just wanted to post this in response to another poster who recommended MAHA over the Accu charger, we carry a MAHA charger as well and have had more returns on that one than on the Accu. Of course no company or product is perfect 100% of the time, but I hope this helps people make an informed decision.

Endeavoring to help people make an informed decision, lets talk a bit more about the AccuEvolution Accu20 charger. Most of the failures with this charger that I have read up on have been with its PSU. Using this unit to solar charge batteries would not utilize the supplied PSU. When I first researched a charger for my LSD AccuEvolution C and D cells people were having problems with the Accu20 charger. Please see these threads.

I have not purchased an Accu20 charger so my opinions are only based on the experiences that other CPFers have taken the time to post. For which I am thankful to! I have purchased 4 of the MAHA MH-C808M chargers to date and they have worked well with no failures. The MAHA MH-C808M charger compliments the recharging requirements of the AccuEvolution D cells better than the Accu20 charger. It could be that the Accu20 chargers weak link is only its PSU. Please do your own due diligence. Also as a rule I never leave an active charger unattended. Happy Mods!

Thanks for your post. I plan on picking up a Maha shortly.

Have there been any updates or new info on LSD C- and D-size cells? Thanks !

I don't have any personal experience, but my research indicated that Accupower really is the only option worth looking at. There are the new Eneloop C and D cells, but they have low capacity and have very limited availability.

I am not an expert on batteries like some here, but I purchased 10 of the Accupower D cells about a year ago and since have purchased another twenty. From my experience and from other posters comments, I think these cells are the real deal.

Here's what the thirty I got are used for.
6- 6D Maglite with 600 lumen terralux drop-in
4- lithium battery charger powered by D cells for rc helicopter
9- three Rayovac lanterns
2- shower radio
6- Coleman tent fan
3- 3D led Maglite

I also have the MAHA C808M and use it mostly, but I also have the Accu20 to use because it can be powered by 12VDC.

My cost for the cells is about the same as the cost of the items they are powering . If you add the cost of the chargers, then it exceeds that of the items powered.

So far I am very happy with the Accupower Ds. Only time will tell if my investment was wise. I figure if the cells are still working in ten years and they still have 70 % of their original capacity, it will be a success. If I have 30 pieces of junk in five years, it will be a failure.

+1 I bought the D's for my 3D malkoff modded maglite and they are awesome!

I only have 4 of the Accupower D cells, but I have tested them and all 4 can deliver 10,000mAh of capacity - they are definitely the real deal.

Thanks for the info on the Accupowers, guys. I will pick some up shortly.

That happens a lot in this household. :twothumbs

Tenergy has some D cells, 10000mah, LSD. 17$ a pair. I haven't been able to find a review- I may buy a pair for the bigger light to see what they do- but I can't charge them full on my little Lacrosse (3AH max)
