low settng,diff heads,same intensity-same runtime?

Hello flashlight friends,

If the low setting of a two stage light is set to a given light output (say, similar to a 3x5mm led).

Will different emitter/driver combos still deplete batteries at different rates when used on low only?

Different converters (drivers) and different LED's (based on the Vf) will be effected to varing degrees by the voltage drop due to the resistor. The output current setting of the driver does not effect the low level or run time. I.E. A BadBoy 400 and a BadBoy 750 both on 1x123 cells and both using 15 ohm resistors in the switches will have comperable light levels ans run times on low.

If I follow your question properly, the answer is yes. I have a couple NexGen1000's that I currently use and I will get the same low runtime on these if they were set at 400 mA instead. Since the resistor drops the converter out of regulation, it appearantly makes no difference what the converter was set to run the LED at.

from now on I'll just buy the most powerful version,
as long as the lower setting serves my purposes 90%
of the time.
