Lowes clearance batteries, ymmv

Hi all, I hope this is an acceptable place to post this.

My wife and I were in Lowes on Saturday and I saw that they had D cell and AAA cell batteries clearanced for 1/2 off. I got a 12-pack of D cells for $4.99. They were Rayovacs and were dated December, 2011. I know they're not top-of-the-line cells, but I'm going to put them in some mags and a couple of those flourescent lanterns that Coleman makes.

I've been buying those large packs of rayovacs at home depot when they have them on "clearance".
Check when you buy them if you see a tiny bit of leakage in the bottom of the pack then don't buy that pack but as long as I check first I haven't had any problem.

Thanks for the tip! I gave them a decent once-over. I'm glad I picked them up now, since between the wal-mart fluorescent lantern clearance and the target lantern clearance tonight I wound up using a 12-pack just to feed the new lights!
