Hello All,
So I'm interested in making a mag623 out of a tri-bored 2D cell, and I'm wondering if it would be possible to do this with Rechargeable AA's. I'd like to not have to buy a second charger, and I have a charger that'll recharge AA's, so logically that would be my preference. Maybe a custom 8AA-2D in a quad bore might work better? Or maybe even a 3 D cell with 12 AA's? 3D is ideally the biggest I'd like to go, as It needs to be hand held. What AA cells would you recommend me to use? Ideally Sanyo 2600's for maximum runtime, but I'd be open to suggestions. Has anyone tried an aspheric lens on a Mag 623? Or am I just dreaming?

Thanks guys!

Edit: One more question, what charger do y'all use to charge 15.6v Battery packs, if I'm forced to go down that road and get a lux luthor's custom pack.

You'll need at least 10 1.2v batteries to fit in the body in order to power the 623 correctly(at specs).

Lux's 13.2 v, 14.4 v and 15.6v battery packs should work.

Forget about Sanyo 2600/2700s, or any other "high capacity" cells; they'll crap out long before the 10amp draw required. Eneloops MIGHT work, but at 10 amps they're about 1.0v.

The only AAs would be CBP Elite 1700s or the Amondotech 1800s (called maxamps I think?). They will deliver a solid 1.1v+ under 10 amps.

About fitting 4-across, I've always been able to do that by re-wrapping the cells in thin clear packing tap. You can then make your own custom pack if you're decent at soldering. 12 cells in a 3D should work, though you can always add in the extra 2/3 sub-c for the extra juice.

I'm powering my 623 with 11 Titanium 1800's in a quad configuration, they're in a FM battery holder and that's inside a bored out mag so I don't need to play with the battery wrappers!

I don't think you could do it in a 2D...

Well there is the 12AA holder by Fivemega that's for a 4D mag.
At least you can have access to each AA cell and check cell voltatges and remove and replace if one fails etc., whereas a sealed shrink wrap battery pack allows you little repair option. Huge 4D mag I know, but that's the price to pay I guess. And like others said you've got to use the right AA's. This is a another charger option you can use too.
