I have previously posted questions here for help in modding either a SF P9 or Mag C cell to a red LED for night hunting. I would have liked a small tactical lite with a red LED, but that would have required modding skills that I don't currently have. So I took the easy way.
I ordered a Terralux MaxStar5 red LED for a 3 to 6 cell Mag lite. I took my two C cell Mag lite to my gunsmith and had him shorten the lite 30mm and rethread it. I inserted the LED and two C123 batteries in a plastic tube into the lite, driving the LED at approx. 6 volts. I also wired a a weapon style tape pressurer switch into the tail cap. To mount it on a gun, I took two in-expensive 30mm scope rings and opened them up to 31mm to fit the Mag lite, it would have been just as easy to turn down the Mag lite to 30mm.
The Mag head has a good throw and with this mod I can easily see 120 yards or more with the naked eye, more than sufficient for coyote and fox hunting.
