Newly Enlightened
Hi All
I'm a nube, posted a couple of times. I joined because I wanted to do a P7 M*g 3D as I had one of these torches going spare after I got the LED bug.
I have learned loads from you guys and finished the P7 with very pleasing results using a DX sku.12229 as the reflector.
I am interested to know what you guys think of other reflector setups, I have seen the removable cam offerings for sale at KD and thought about trying one of those. I may run in to trouble here as I have used an emitter mounted on a star, but I have access to a lathe to machine away the back of relfectors if needed.
I want the best compromise between flood and throw as I will use this light around the house for emergencies and such and for going for evening walks in the winter, but I don't intend to keep the focussing facility.
The current reflector gives a pretty good beam with large spill and a big, bright, but poorly defined hotspot. I would like to tighten the beam slightly and make it more uniform (floody?) without losing brightness. Would I be better off with a mag style alu OP reflector? I may buy one on recommendation of the responses here as I can always put it in my stock LED 2D if I prefer the DX reflector currently fitted.
In all honesty it has already wildly beaten my expectations based on my SF 6P with an XP-G drop in fitted, but I love to tinker!
Just in case you need to know, I am running a home brew heatsink (not much recess around the emitter) SSC P7 with a 4 slot star, KD 3 mode 3A buck driver, 2X 18650 (for now). I forgot the spec of the P7, but it is of the type that suits a buck board best.
Sorry to say, I have not had any success with taking some beam shots due to my low budget camera, I'll post 'em up if I can get it to work with my 6P for comparison.
Cheers
Matt.
