Hope someone can help me. I have a Mag85 that was bought from Ed N. from Mass. in January of 07. Everyone on my night shift is jealous of this great light! It came with 2 -10.8V 2700mah battery packs (SAN27AA9) & a Universal Charger with magnetic leads. This light was a powerhouse. WAS being the operative word.

As a LEO, this light has saved my fanny two or three times due to its brightness and ease of carrying. Unfortunately my 1st shift cruiser partner tossed it to me Saturday morning - I missed it - and it fell directly square upon the head face down. The force of the shrink wrapped rechargable battery pack caused the high temp switch with the WA-1185 bulb to be forced down towards the glass lens about 3/8". This popped off the rubber switch cover (we never found it) and left my cherished Mag85 unable to be turned off due to the switch now being under the battery tube opening. Good news is that the bulb is not blown, bad news is that I now have to unscrew the tail cap to turn off the light and the beamshot is now wacky with a large black hole in the center!:shakehead

I sent Ed an email about repairing the light, but heard nothing back and have no phone number for him. I am not a modder at all, but was looking for some help to repair my Mag85. I can either send it to you and pay you to fix it or buy the parts and attempt to fix it myself.

Is there anyone who could help this 3rd shift LEO?

Thanks

Ed (Mad Maxabeam) disappeared about a year ago (you may want to remove his posted personal info--CPF etiquette). I also bought a bunch of things from him.

It sounds like you need a new Maglite switch. I sort of took over making battery packs after he left, and could fix it for you. If you ask around, I do have a few incan Maglite mods. Send me a PM.

dl744tga, due to the nature of this forum being public, that is...it is accessible to anyone whether they are members or not, please refrain from posting [or in this case edit out] the personal information [name, address, etc] from your post.

I call it a safety precaution, but the mods call it something else.:candle:
If the person you bought the light from has a cpf handle, feel free to post that instead:)

It sounds like that light was modded without re-installing the original C-clip that prevents the switch from being pushed forward like that. The only thing that was holding it in place was the set screw. I suggest that whomever repairs it for you install said clip. I am also willing to fix it for you if you need a backup, though I am confident that LuxLuthor can handle it.

Edit: I have assumed that the battery pack is not over sized to the extent that the switch had to be moved forward from the stock position. If this is the case, then the C clip could not be reinstalled without modification to the switch assembly. I still think it could and should be done to prevent this type of failure.

I just got back online & sent him my address if he wants me to fix it. If he is sending it to mudman, I'm sure he can do a good job fixing it also.
