I have been lurking here for awile and learning alot. Great forum!
I have a few questions about modding my MagCharger.

1) I want to use the Phillips 5761 bulb. Can the stock battery handle the current requirments? Or would it be better to purchasse a NiMh Like this one.http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1154
2)I would also like to use the smart fast charger(http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3005) Will it work with the stock cradle assembly and if not what kind of mods do I need to make?
3)Are the mica shields still availble and if so where do I purchase them from? If not is there any other mod that will prevent this bulb from melting the socket?
Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Welcome to CPF! I believe the stock battery will handle the bulb fine. The hotspot will be 2-3X larger than before, which I didn't expect. I cannot answer your other questions, but I'm sure someone who can will chime in soon.

Hi metlarules,

Here is a link of a thread i started not long ago that may be of interest to you concerning the 5761 bulb. It has other links in it as well.
Magcharger 5761

To answer your questions
1) the stock batteries will be fine, just expect reduce runtime with this bulb. Larger capacity batteries will give you longer runtime.

2) I personally havent done it myself, but the stock cradle can be opened up and modded to suit different chargers. Sorry i dont have any links for this.

3) An alternative i did to the mica shield is to remove the bulb pedastal from the MC and remove the inner plastic part that actually holds the bulb. I then file it down about ~3 millimeter and put it back altogether. Once done the plastic holder sits lower in the metal outside bulb pedastal, this is where i put exhaust gasket material for insulation. And to hold it in place i use the silver shielding on the sockets from ordinary household halogen lamps and the 5761 bulb installed.

With this setup i have run my MC for about 40 mins straight (1/2D 4000mah cells) without any problems or damaged to the inside of my light. The light it self was very hot afterwards as i just turned it on and walked away and checkinging on it every few minutes.

Have fun modding.
