Some advice needed!

I have a Maglight ML300LX two D cell.
I would like to use Lithium batteries in it, because it's left standing for quite some time.
The only equivalent D cells I can find here (in South Africa) are 3.6v

Question: if I put two of these in the Maglite will it burn up the LED? Or would it be able to handle it?
Any advice welcome!

No, don't do that, way too much voltage. What you can do is put Energizer lithium AA in adapters. Somewhat reduced run time but good for long term storage. Whatever you do make sure to back the tailcap off enough to break the circuit because of the standby drain.
Others will probably have more ideas.

Those D lithium cells are very low draw, not nearly enough to drive a led, they are 3.6v Lithium Thionyl Chloride cells, they are made for memory back ups, alarms... made by taridan, saft, titus, xeno..
if you want to use litiums, you can use D-AA or D-2AA holder, and AA 1.5V lithium cells like energizer, and possibly others, (here in usa there is only energizer 1.5 lithium, but on SA market other brands may be on sale). those will not damage your light. and can be stored for at least 10 years.
