Does one exist? If not, what have you found that could do the job. I would like to hang it upside down from a tree w/my Malkoff module and provide some nicely diffused area lighting.

I use the Maglite lens holder with a spare plastic lens with scotch tape over it. Just don't use it with a high powered incandescent.

I could probably make you something nice out of delrin that you could swap with the lens.

What I am looking for is something that could be fitted over the head of the light like the diffuser tips for the Fenix or the Liteflux lights. It would make it like a candle. I don't want to make the beam floody; I want to make it like a candle.

Does that make sense?

Thank you.

I was thinking to make it extend from the end of the bezel about 1/2" to 3/4", so you'd get plenty of spill to the sides and back (like a candle), and not have to worry about it falling off. This wouldn't be just a thin disk. I'm planning on making something similar for a D10 I've got sitting around, when I get it done, I'll take a picture of it for you.

I could make something that goes over the outside just as easily, but for the tightest fit I'd need to have the head of the light on hand.

I'm always on the lookout for "diffuser caps" for all of my lights.

Any white cap of any kind that I come across (from my wife's hairspray bottle caps, water bottles, junk caps found blowing across the parking lot in my local Target, etc.) goes into my pocket, to be tried on for size later.

I have found one that fits perfect, and diffuses well, for my 3AA LED Mag. But the problem with that light is it has no way to attach a lanyard to hang it upside down from a tree, or a nail in a leanto. It does have the excellent "candle feature", but then the LED is bare, and you cannot use the diffuser cap.

But the diffuser cap I found works great, and you can always rig up a stand, or just prop it up somewhere to spread the light around where you need it.

If you keep your eye's open, you may find something that fits well. Good luck.

I rarely need one so I jerry rig mine (couldn't justify spending any money on one). If you're willing to use the "quick & dirty" approach here's what I find works for a wide area diffuser. For a C or D Mag try using something like one of those translucent plastic beer cups (use one inside another if you find the light is too bright) or else a yogurt container and a bit of tape. And yes, spray can tops can work too. For AA/SF E series sized lights often an OTC medicine bottle or the like can be used.

Sure you'll lose some light but these work well and since the price is certainly right, try it. Nothing to lose but some time. If what you try is a bit too small just cut the sides and make it fit -- you can cover the cuts with tape. Ugly engineering is OK once in awhile especially if it leaves folding money in your pocket.

I made a cheap diffuser out of a old CD case one of those slimline cases which has a frosting on the back side i just marked out a piece and cut it to size.
Its a bit smaller than the clear plastic window on the maglite so you can press fit it into the bezel of the maglite infront of the clear plastic window, but it should be possible to use in place of the plastic window.

It works as a diffuser, its fairly thin plastic and seems to work well enough for me.

Last night I was drinking a bottle of water, and looked at the cap. So, I grabbed my Mag-LED, and tried the cap on it. It fit perfectly, not too tight, and not too loose. Even when focused as tightly as possible, the bottle cap (Poland Springs, if you want to know)diffused it quite nicely.
The cap was frosted plastic, but it seemed to make the light, warmer, somehow (beam seemed slightly more yellow, compared to when the cap was off). Colors seemed more natural (althought I love the neutral LED in my Mag-LED). It also diffused through the sides of the cap, enough to evenly illuminate my entire room.:grin2:

I took the bezel off and went to Walmart and tried out various lids.

I found a fat can of hairspray who's lid fit well. Go shopping. :D
