Maglite Question

I recently read somewhere that if a Duracell or Energizer battery leaks in your maglite, they will replace it for free(or close to it).


Is this true?

This is true with Duracell, but expect to have to ship them your Mag for inspection. You're paying for that great warranty.

1. You can ship your light to Mag, and Mag will send you a replacement, and bill it to the battery company.
2. You can ship your light to the battery company, and the company will send you a check for the replacement value.

About 10 or 12 years ago I sent a leak-damaged 2D Maglite to Duracell. The check they sent me was enough to buy a PAIR OF 3D Maglites. I was one happy camper!

Duracell, Energizer, and Rayovac all carry a device damage warranty for their batteries. If a device is damaged, they will repair or replace it. I've heard Panasonic batteries in the U.S. also carry that warranty, but I'm not certain.

Maglite and Duracell has a reciprocal agreement. You can send it to either Daracell or Maglite for the warranty service.

Bob I tried to claim the cost of a new Maglight from Duracell, no luck if you live in Australia, they reimbursed me for the cost of the batteries.

Bob I must have got in before Norm, I got my 6D Maglite paid for by Duracell. I did point out I had probably stuck $500 worth of their batteries through it prior to the leaking batch.

They advised me against keeping any of their batteries in any device when not in use, I pointed out that somewhat defeats the purpose of an emergency torch, unless they thought I could easily find and put 6 batteries in a torch in the dark

That's not right. Here's the guarantee from their Australian page:

DURACELL guarantees these batteries against defects in materials and workmanship. Should any device be damaged due to a battery defect, we will repair or replace it at our option.
