It seems as if I can not find much info on a search as many old threads are not showing up for me. I will date myself here however I was going through some old lights and found a maglite with two adapters inside that were 3-AA to D-cell. It had a metal reflector and glass lens also. It took me forever to remember what it was for then I searched the numbers on the bulb. It is a very old and outdated mod called the roar of the pelican. It was a simple slick mod that used either a 2-D cell host or C-Cell body with two 18650 batteries.

If there are any older ones here who remember this it was a fun and easy mod and for the time a pretty decent performer. I remember now putting it away as the bulb had blown and I kind of forgot about it. Well just for the sake of nostalgia I have tried to find some new bulbs and it seems they are no longer made. I am not up to date on incan stuff at all and as such have no idea if there is anything available today that will work.

I believe it was an 8.4V lamp and again just cant find the old Pelican bulbs anywhere. Can any of you incan experts give me an idea as to anything that will work and that is currently available? Thanks for any info on this.

The Pelican bulbs are long gone. I can't remember but I'm thinking the went away around 2011? But I could be wrong.

The ROP worked well on 2 18650s in a Mag 2C with a tail mod. Or a 2D with battery adapter. I ran 6 Eneloops in a 3 AA to 1 D adapter.

They were great bulbs. And the mod was easy. At the time the best bang for your buck in mod.

I had one too. The bulbs you are looking for were the Pelican Big D 3853. I was able to find a few places online that still have them. I too am interested in what mods I could do to make that light use-able again without breaking the bank.

I saw some guys chatting about using automotive bulbs in place of old flashlight (maglite) bulbs.
I know you can still find makita flashlight bulbs in the 9v-16v+ range for old/new flashlights. There has to be one they make that works in a mag.

Yeah unfortunately they're just not around anymore. The closest thing I have is a tad customs bulb that is about the same power as the ROP low bulb. That is my brightest non-surefire incandescent. But he also doesn't make them anymore unfortunately

I wish I could still get a fist full of those bulbs. Mine is built into a 2C maglite with an FM reflector, and powered by a couple of old li-ion C cells I have. IIRC you could get one call the "high" and one called the "low". What's in mine right now would be the high.

A quote I found from Fivemega in another thread "3854 is a 6 volt bulb and can be overdriven with 6 NiMH while 3853 is a 7.2 volt and won't be overdriven with 6 NiMH"

Ghostguy6 I believe I found the same links as you however when you try to add them to your cart they show as out of stock. Also the bulbs I have are listed as 3854 rather than 3853.

Good news is I just found a brand new sealed package of two 3854 bulbs in one box of old lights. I have many boxes of old lights from long ago and here lately I have been sorting through it all. Holy smoke I think I will keep this package unopened for now.

Anyone remember Wolf Eyes and Lumens factory High Output Incan lamps. I just found a box with about 20 old Lumens Factory brand new Incan drop in lamps. Also found a few mint E1E Incans and several lumen factory high output drop ins for the E1E. I had forgotten about this little E1E and the LF drop in really woke that light up.

Anyway thanks for the info and I have a few more boxes to sort through.

Don't need to remember lumens factory. Lol. They're still around and still offering all those bulbs and lights.

3854 is the 6v HO bulb. The 3853 is the 7.2v HO bulb

Nice finds in your box

Holy smoke vicv thank you for the heads up on lumens factory. It has been years since I ordered there and crazy to see they are still going strong. They even have a few new items and that slick little E1E led drop in will be my first new purchase. I also found an old (but brand new) E1E Vital Gear body with a P-60 adapter in my stash. I had forgotten I even had it. I am also ordering a new head for that as well in order to have a complete light. I have at least 15 different P60 drop-ins ranging from a few Malkoff units as well as triple and quad emitters.

Man I see now I am standing at the edge of this dang rabbit hole all over again and my wallet will never forgive me. Thanks again for the information.

You're welcome. Ya they're a cool company still Supporting us incan guys

Those E2e and E1e...amazing lights. They were my first serious lights back then and what an introduction! They still set the standard for beam quality. The E2e especially. The LF bulbs are superb and the ones for rechargeable batteries are true guilt-free lumens.

They might as well be giant gold nuggets to any Flashaholic.

Monocrom I have found several gold nuggets and I am starting to browse forum looking for the next newest thing to buy. Lots of cool stuff and the custom section still interests me most. I have all sorts of circuits laying around as well as emitters, reflectors and host bodies. I had forgotten how much fun you can have with a soldering iron.

Late to the thread, but the 53's ran better from 2x LiIon (including IMR) while the 54's were better with NiMH, was my recollection. ElectronGuru did a definitive thread on them back in the day.

Freshly charged 6xnimh are same voltage as 2 li ion. Freshly charged nimh cell is 1.4v I've used both with 54 bulb, can not say i noticed any difference.

They are very close. Buy nimh will immediately drop their voltage to lower than 18650s or bigger. Especially high drain ones. Even more so at 5A. The bulb will never see that 1.4v per cell for longer than a few seconds

Just dug out my ROP. It's a 2 C. Looking at mods done it has a deeper metal reflector, adapter tube, uprated metal lamp holder assembly, anti-roll tail accessory and glass lens. Running Sony VTC6 cells. I'll take it out later for a beamshot. The deep reflector is the same size as the bulb envelope which cuts light wasted out the back.
