Maglite Rechargable repair info needed

I have a Maglite Rechargable in which the battery failed.

After replacing the battery for a new one, it still does not turn on or recharge. When I look insite the barrel I can see oxidation on the contact (at the level of the switch.) I cannot get to it to clean it. Can the switch/lightholder assy be removed from the barrel. And how do I do that ?
