Hi all,

I have tried to find something about the Magnalight RL-11 but according to the search results this lamp seems to be non-existant....

Can anyone help to compare the RL-11's light performance to another 35W HID lamp already treated in this forum? Can it be compared to the K3500R or the N30 or other?

Thanks for any help!

Alan

Well folks, thanks for viewing my thread!
Since I did not yet receive any answer on my question I assume that either nobody has ever made any experiences with that specific light or I made a serious newbie-mistake of any kind but of which I am not aware of.
Please enlight me!:anyone:

BTW: I did the plunge into the cold water and ordered a RL-11 without seeing and testing it before and got it yesterday......

Is that the light made from Arco? I have been eyeing it for some time now. Not a lot of fanfare from some folks but it is made from a reputable company. Let us know what you think of it and if you can provide any photos of light and beamshots that would be great...

The light is known by different names which is probably why there has been little response.

The RL-11 is the ACRO and does exist.

The A3100 is the same light as the RL-11.

It will outperform the K3500R by a wide margin and would be on par with the N30. One advantage over the N30 would be the li-ion batteries. One thing that I don't care for is that there is a small charging / 12V pigtail that hangs out of the light in the back. I don't think it's a huge issue but that would have been better had it been built into the body of the light.

The only light that I've seen it compared directly to was the Streamlight Lightbox, which is a gigantic throwing HID. Overall output between the two was very close when compared at close range with diffusers attached to each light. That makes sense since they're both 35W lights with 4300K color temperature.

Traditionally ACRO HID lights have an excellent reputation around here and the X990 was often thought of the value performance standard before the N30 arrived on the scene.

One last thought... The Titanium L35 will soon be released and personally I would wait to see that light before spending the same amount or a bit more on the RL-11. My opinion is that it will be a more durable light overall, have longer run-time and will be more flexible with many filter options. It might be worth waiting a month or two for.

The Arco is a nice performer and has held up well in shootouts despite it's "age". However, I don't like them due to their combination of size, shape and weight. It's just not a comfortable light for me to hold and use.

Thanks everybody!
I guess the sample beam shots from my side are not necessary anymore since Patriot36 posted a threadlink to some very good camparison shots. I will of course post some if anyone wants to see different pictures but I do not have any other light for comparison except perhaps a MAG 2D but only with Krypton bulp (which I guess would not be a really thrilling comparison though).
I was really amazed about the RL-11 when I first switched it on. I have never owned a HID before and the best and brightest I had is a 55Watt Halogen handheld lamp powered directly from a 12V socket on my trawler boat.
Can't wait for weekend until I will finally compare both on the lakes. From what I saw in town though I am pretty sure that the HID will blow away my old lantern by far.
I was almost shocked when the clock tower (about 700 yards away) was hit by the beam of my lamp. It reflected so bright that, in fear of attracting anyone's attention, I immediately pointed the lamp elsewhere towards the woods about twice as far away as the tower but all I saw was a bright beam that did not seem to be any darker than before!

I can say that the performance of this light is several times higher than my expectations!

Yes, the pigtail can be an issue but for me it is not. My lamp will not be used for work under tough conditions but only as a search light on my boat.

That's understated ... ;)

That's called HID or short-arc guilt. They often make us feel as though we're doing something wrong when we really aren't...lol. They definitely call attention to themselves. I'm glad it's everything and more than you expected. :)
