Magnet flashlight?

I have a typical cheap Eveready 2D incan light with a magnet on the side, that I stick on the side of the kitchen refrigerator.
It's awful - a dim yellowish light that quickly fades. I'd like a better light for this function - but not too expensive.
I've looked at lots of light reviews, and a magnet option seems extremely rare.
Does anyone make a "universal" magnet attachment, say a velcro or similar loop with a magnet attached that I could wrap around a better LED light?
Or is there a good LED magnet light I missed on a quick web search?

Check out the Dorcy 41-4225 LED Rechargeable High Power Work light, I use one every day its a good light, battery last about 2 hour continues. They have them at Sears (cheaper at Sears) or Direct.

people have just added magnets to small lights. Here's one with a quark mini and people have done something similar with zebralights

I've super-glued magnets to the back end of several of my lights. Works great and really adds to the utility. Nail polish remover (acetone) will get them off.

get a strong magnet with a hook and many lights have clips on them or lanyards you can hang the light on it.

You could replace the incan bulb with an LED module from Nite-Ize or other company as I did with a Rayovac magnetic 2D flashlight.

As an alternative to the great suggestions already offered, in case you don't want to go through the trouble of adding magnets or upgrading the bulb, check out the Bayco Nightstick lights, the larger Yellow ones have magnets in them.

They have an option to be used as a flashlight with a single large LED at the tip or as a floodlight via an array of LED's on the side. It's reasonably bright and comes with batteries all for under $20. I picked up one for my son from my local Walmart and it's been very useful as a general purpose light around the house.

Do a search in this forum as I know for sure someone recently started a thread about the smaller Bayco lights.

Cheers,
Tim

Not that I've heard of, but that sounds like a great DIY project

Thanks for the idea, but it doesn't quite fit my idea of "not too expensive". Also I wanted a more traditional light so it's handy for non-flashaholics in the kitchen.

Thanks for the idea. I don't want to do that for this, a small light sticking straight out from the side of the refrigerator is likely to be knocked off accidentally. But I like the idea for other purposes; any other good places for magnets besides the linked kjmagnetics site?

Thanks; see my previous comment.

get a strong magnet with a hook ...
I was looking for a magnet with a hook, I know I've seen them before but didn't find one poking around at the hardware store.

That's an interesting idea but I think it would stick out from the frig more than I'd like, also when someone grabs the light then there's an awkward bracket attached (or they have to use two hands to separate) (unless magnet is extremely strong).

You could replace the incan bulb with an LED module from Nite-Ize or other ...
I saw these online but they cost 2-3X the cost of the light itself! Might have bought one anyway at hardware store but they were out of the 2D ones (only had mini-maglite ones).

As an alternative ... check out the Bayco Nightstick lights ...
Thanks, but those have external separate magnet clips, not built in, see comment above about a separate clip.

[Idea of velcro with magnet] Not that I've heard of, but that sounds like a great DIY project
Might try that some time - picked up 12 feet of velcro strap; if I can find some magnets with attachment points it might work well.

Kaidomain.com and dealextreme.com ...
Thanks, per above I might try tail magnets some time for other purposes but not this.

Further thoughts:

Various searches on "magnet flashlight" turned up a lot of noise, especially from magnetic shake lights.

I found an "Emergency Flashlight Seat Beat Cutter Magnet Blinker" at Amazon but like others above it seems like the magnet's in the tail

In searching around, I found a magnetic clip for Streamlight Jr Luxeon and Jr Luxeon Reach at Brightguy, but those lights it fits are $30-40.

Also found a Joby Gorillatorch - magnetic feet on flexible tripod legs - but doubt it would hold to side of frig, and would stick out too much.

At Battery Junction I found an inexpensive squat magnet base 3-LED light but unfortunately it's 3-AAA, I just don't like that format, too bad.

Elsewhere I found the Striker - looks like an underwater mine - not quite what I want (throws light all over instead of a beam) but an interesting idea.

Also other little lights with magnetic bases and swivels or flexible (gooseneck) extensions.

Finally found a good candidate - Eveready Kitchen Essentials Magnet Light (CLED2A3A) - around $11 - seems to be what I'm looking for - LED light, takes either 2AA or 2AAA. But I haven't seen them in local stores.

My web searches seemed feeble. Finally I tried Google instead of Yahoo (which I've used forever) - what a difference! Ever since they started partnering with Microsoft their searches don't seem as good, but I didn't realize it was this bad. For instance, searching on "eveready CLED2A3A" just now turns up 1 hit on Yahoo, 1080 hits on Google. Guess it's time to change (probably to Scroogle.org).

I picked up one of these the other day works pretty good for $6. For some reason you have to copy and paste the link below.

The Inova 24/7 kit comes with a magnetic mount, along with a good head-band. Alot akward to carry, but it's a really nice little light with lots of functionality.

I'm not sure if this is going to fit your needs/wants but you might want to check out the Pak-Lite.

Since the 'body' of the flashlight is the 9V battery, you can get a magnet with sticky tape on one side and affix it the battery. They sell them for $1 at the above site.

I have a couple of LED headlamps that I got from harbor freight tools. They have a removeable strap and a magnet on the back. I have one on my file cabinet at work. It puts out nice light for 5 bucks!! Sorry not link or pics.
