What bulbs do you incan guys like for everyday use (nothing too fancy and long burn time) that is still really bright with good spill?

if there were a "really bright" incan with tons of runtime, then that would be really nice eh?

Generally speaking, if you are in the market for a more standard output light, an LED is the way to go, you will get decent output, cleaner looking beams, and about 4X the runtime compared to an incan of the same output.

When it comes to incans brightness is achieved when you overload the filament on the light bulb ( hence the name hotwire) however upon doing this you shorten the life span of the filament. So brightness is incongruent to longevity of the bulb.

From what you are looking I think xenon is the way to go.

I run a Magnum Star Xenon 5 cell in a 2D light with 6xAA NiMH cells. Using Duracell 2650s, I get 2.5 hours of run time on a full charge. Decently bright, decent runtime, 2D form factor.

This combination pulls slightly less than 1 amp, so you can use a pair of cheap 3AA to 1 D adapters. And the stock reflector and lens are OK with the level of heat.

If you want a smoother beam with sidespill, put in a MOP reflector.
