MC-E: best models to choose from?

Greetings:

I think I'd like to buy a Cree MC-E based light. Since I know this emitter uses a lot of current, I'd rather not have any single cell lights. A light that can take both options of 3-4 CR123 as well as 2 18650 would be ideal.

The Olight M30 Triton has my attention, and certainly is at a decent price.

Then there's the Tiablo ACE-G at a like price. Compare & contrast anyone?

Fenix TK40 is fat, which is not my preference, as well as using 8 AA. This is a deal-breaker for me.

It's not obvious where to find details on Lumapower MRV Sidekick:

The I heard of an Ultrafire brand, but if they don't have their own web site, I'd rather avoid. I stick with the higher-end brands.

Are there any similar or better offerings? I do prefer the long+thin bodies of the above two models, rather than fat lights. I'm also interested in lighting up the whole parking lot when I take out the garbage, to reveal any unwanted presences. So a floody light is acceptable, which is what I expect from the quad-die anyway.

Which is more floody vs. throwy out of the Olight/Tiablo duo (or others)?

Thanks for input.

I have a couple uber light beamshots in this thread

If you need the best output/runtime and easily found batteries(AA) get the tk40. If you need the most compact get the M30. Both are wonderful you won't regret it.Tiablo is in the middle for size, but it doesn't have different selectable output modes. It is a bit more throwy, but i don't always need the highest mode. If you need the best throw, get a jetbeam M1x or eagletac M2X. Bigger flashlights too but you will have throw. That does not mean that a M30 won't light targets 100m away...Just that these two will light up almost till 150m much nicer...

I'd recommend the Olight M30, isn't really 'throwy' but will be effective for a good 80-100 meters.

Plus with the included diffuser, it is a great pure flood light aswell!

+1 With your needs it sounds like the M30 is your best choice like previously said its not a big time thrower but will get the job done but big time flooder it is. It will light up a medium sized yard or parking garage very well.

If size is also a concern look into some 18500 batterys with M30 instead of 18650, it will cut run time down to around 1 hr. on max instead of the 1.5hr with 18650 but with the 18500 you don't have to use the extender tube making it more compact. This is another good thing about the M30 it gives you options. :)

Yes the options are great!

When I first got mine, I had the extender with 2x 18650's
I loved that setup and still do!

But the added convenience, of the smaller size with 2x 18500's is just awesome!

Why no love for the edp72. From most of the beam shots I've seen, it's always appeared to have a beam w/o gaps in the fill and still a decent throw. How is the UI and build?

Get the M1X from Jetbeam.

The M1X is a great light and I recommend it any day, the Eagletac M2XC4 has a very similar beam but isnt a MC-E light, its shorter and heavier and has a longer runtime in stock form. The Olight M30 isnt very bright compared to most other MC-E lights, but it has its advantages because on its smaller size it is easily carried in a small holster (comes with it) on your belt-loop.

ive never waivered in my support for the M30, and im reccomending it once again. you simply cant have a better UI in my opinion. but if time isnt an issue, and you can stand to wait another month or two, then you might want to consider the new offering from 4-sevens. the more options you have the better off youll be.

I have the DBS MC-E and it is the best flood/throw light that I have seen. It will definitely light up the entire parking lot, as well as give you an incredible hotspot at the edges of the parking lot.

That is not correct, it sends out just about the same amount of light, but it is not as focused as most other lights.
I should have said by EYE brightness, in small room it may seem just as bright as the others but take it outside (in the woods or field) and it doesnt compare, Iam not knocking the M30 at all, I love mine :)

Another vote here for the Deerelight DBS.

The big advantage to me is that the modular design allows you to upgrade the LED emitter in the future or swap it out for another type of emitter. So you can have a MC-E wall of light one day and the next turn it into an R2 super thrower.

Later in the future when new LED's come on the market, you just have to buy another LED pill and not a while new flashlight. . . .

If you need long run-time, get the battery extension tube and run 2x18650

I tell you what, my M30 with diffuser last night worked great to light up the whole front of my neighbours house, after it was egged!

I had my 6P/M60 with me aswell and my neighbour (A Chief Inspector of NSW Police Force) was interested in it :naughty:

I used the M30 to light up the street and neighbours houses to check if it was a targetted attack... which it was. (something to do with his daughter having a falling out with someone lol)

Then afterwards, his wife got me too light up the letter box for her from 10 meters away to see if it was 'attacked' aswell

She shouldn't of looked directly at me afterwards

It's the Quark MC-E I'm waiting for...assuming the price is right.

For eye blinding brightness from an LED it's tough to beat the Eagletac M2X IMO.

I don't like long, skinny lights so the M30 isn't my cup of tea.

I think best for the price is Olight M30,
more Output has the EagleTac M2C4, i compared it together
