MC+E Mod question

Hello all!

I have a question on replacing a Cree Q5 with an MC-E. It is about the LED height....

Will I have to use a board for the MC-E or just install a bare LED to the pill?

I have looked at both LED's datasheets and while height over all is similar the MC-E die must be lower thatn the Q5's. Thinks are more complicated to me cos the MC-E boards seem fatter than the Q5's/

And on my shopping option....If i buy a mounted MC-E can I safely remove the LED with the candle flame method?

Unless someone has a magic method i wouldn't try to remove a MC-E from a star. I tried once and ruined a brand new one. The epoxy they used on the backside was the killer.
what exactly are you putting the MC-E in? a P60 pill?

they use epoxy? I thought it was soldered...

I will be putting it in cylindrical 18650 body (probably that Aurora body sets found in DDX)

I've seen them both ways.. if it's soldered then that would explain why my method failed..
