McClicky for Surefire question...

Unfortunately, I don't recall ever seeing a Z57 or Z58 modded with a McClicky. You'd think the Z58 would be an easy mod via an adapter ring (there's a picture of the stock switch in the sales thread for AW's soft-start replacement), but I don't know if anyone's tried it.

Hmm I thought this was a common mod and I was just not very resourceful... It seems I read of people replacing their Surefire switchs a lot and the z57 seems to be the most common tail cap for an E-series

I don't think the MCClicky will fit in an E series tailcap, unless there is another model I don't know about. I just put one in a Z41 for my C2, but looking at my L4 there's no way it would fit in there.

It fits in the (discontinued) Z52.

And, of course, lots of aftermarket E-series tails.

There are a few things going on here.

The McClicky switch is designed to fit (by itself) into certain E series tailcaps. Only by adding the brass ring, is it usable in larger P/C/G series tailcaps. So remove the brass ring, and its again E series ready (sorry, don't know which models).

In the + brass configuration, the McClicky installs into Z41-BK, Z41-HA, and G series caps.
It cannot be installed into Z58/Z59 (factory) clicky switches of the same size.

I put a McClicky into the tailcap of my E2D. All I had to do was to slightly file down the plastic threads on the lower portion of the McClicky. If have no idea if that´s possible with the Z57 though.

I didn't consider modifying it because I thought that I just bought the wrong part... I'll have to check it out. Thanks

Thanks for clearing that up EG, I didn't realize you could use the MCClicky in that way. That's good info in case I need one for an E series later. My apologies to the OP for the misinformation, I apparently only had half my facts right.

I just realized it´s the top and not the lower portion :)

You could probably use that mod with just about any clicky switch. You're just bypassing the "off" state of the switch with a resistor.

Two issue to keep in mind:

  • The clicky switch becomes a high/low toggle, instead of a on/off toggle.
  • You'll need to unscrew the tailcap to turn the light off, which may not work on all lights (if the threads of the tailcap and body aren't anodized, for example).

I figured I'd just ask here instead of starting a new thread.

Will the McClicky be compatible with the DBS?
