McLux owners - Do you use the clip?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

For the 1 and 2 cell paks, i use the clips. Theyre the best pocket clips on any light ive owned, they will *not* slip off accidently. The 3 cell pak is too long for any of my pockets.

i don't have a mclux ( /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif ), but i have done some mods with the same type of clip as the mclux and they work amazingly well.
all my clippable edc lights get clipped /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I use my pocket clips. I'm not into the swivel clips as I feel like the risk of losing the lights is greater with the swivel clips.

I always use the clips.
I clip the light on the INside of my pocket, with the clip on the outside.
Holds the light in place Very well.
Best of all, I can have my Arc AA in the same pocket, and the mclux (or Arc LS head on the mclux pack) will be held up by the clip enough not to touch the Arc AA.

I clip inside pocket like ticey. Sometimes if I'm on just the right couch with just the right pants it'll slip out, so I have to be careful /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif but most the time it's in there safe and secure all day.

It seems that I won't be able to convince Don to forego the clip, which is the key hurdle between us and the next batch of black McLux Powerpacks...

MORE black Mclux packs ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
muuuuhahahahahahahahaha

Now THAT is good news ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So, whats the hurdle? The clips are one of the nicest features. Why would you not want them on the next batch? Price issues? The TI clips are GREAT, and look excellent on the EN and Black packs. Alot better than a black clip, IMHO.

I was lucky enough to get ahold of a couple black packs (on the way as we speak)... I hope. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif But, I would love to see more made. Heck, I wont to see more Mclux stuff period made !!! Even the EN stuff is basically gone now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The clip is much too stiff to use. HOWEVER, I like it because it works very nicely as an anti roll device. I hate showing it off to people, because the first thing they do is try to move the clip.

More black packs? I better get saving. Any chance of making some 4 cell ones /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice try Alan. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BuddTX,

It sounds like you have a TK that never had the clip properly relieved of its preset tension.

BuddTX,
I had to unbend my clip just alittle. It was VERY tight to begin with.
I bent it just alittle at the first angle, up by the screws.
Works great now.

What do you mean, they try to move the clip? Pull it out away from the body?
Personally, I was impressed that I almost cant, nice and tight, strong clip, that will retain its shape and tention very well.

Mine is also WAY too tight to use, and I cannot seem to loosen the screws. Is it "safe" to simply bend it away from the body, or is there a better option?

Stainless,

You need to somehow clamp the mounted section of the clip against the pak tail so that the stress goes into bending the clip and not pulling out the screws. If you clamp the body in a soft jawed vise or with some firm protection gripping the tail and end of the monted section of the pocket clip, you should then be able to bend the clip out beyond it's present "set". When it springs back, it will not be pre loaded so much.

Yes I use the clip when I carry the McLux (I use my front pocket for that). However, even if I didn't use the clip, I'd still want it, since it makes the light look so much nicer. IMO the visual design of the McLux is as important as its functional design.

People just want to bend the clip to see it work. BTY, my comment is NOT A COMPLAINT at all! I love my McLux JUST THE WAY IT IS!

I do not use clips on any of my lights, and the McLux is too heavy to put in a shirt pocket as a clip to the pocket.

Yeah, i had the same problem as BuddTx when i got the powerpack, but after readjusting the screws a few times and then using it, it is now less stiff, but still stiff enought that i need some force to push the clip into the pocket.
clip is good, i lived for 3 years edc the 6p with no clip and its really annoying in the pockets.
cheers

DONE!

Thanks - having never worked with titanium before, I hesitated to mess around too much without proper instruction. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

the problem with the titanium clips is that they come flat, and need to be bent to fit the curve of the flashlight body. this is a real pita. i've only done it a couple times, i can't imagine doing it for an entire run! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
