MCR-17

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

The McR-17 and McR25 never got past proto stage. Instead, I compromised with the McR-20 which like the oher two is composed of the same reflective curve. The 20 can be cut down into a 17. I went with the 20 to get max reflective surface within a 1" OD head.

Short answer is that the McR-17 doesn't exist.

EDIT: I see where Chris (Orb) is cutting down the 20 to a 19 in his raw project. I have cut one down to a 12.5 for a project. There's all kinds of reflectors in there! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've used lots of McR20s cut down to 17mm in my E head mods.

As with machining any reflector, you run this risk of damage to the reflective surface, which can occur in varying degrees.

Although I do love the McR20, and the beam from the cut down McR17, bernie did a test for me and he got a higher lux reading from the same mod with an IMS 17mm reflector. I'm going to attribute this to the fact that the McR is textured and the IMS is not.

Since finding this out, I usually use the IMS reflectors in applications that allow their use, simply because I don't have to risk damage to the reflector while modding it.

I should also note that the difference between the two above mentioned reflectors was not big. I typically reserve using cut down McRs for "special" handmade lights, again, only because of the risk. If I could mod the McR with no risk of damage, I'd use them all of the time. The beam is simply beautiful.

Tony, wasn't that for the LuxV in those two reflectors? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

OK. I just want a textured reflector for my micra. I really like the beam that comes out of the QIII's reflector, and I haven't had much luck getting an IMS in focus. ANyone willing to cut down an McR-20?

Hey Chris, still no luck with the ims? Did you ever test it with the original Longbow capsule?
Maybe someone can comment on this: Is the McCapsule shorter than the stock longbow capsule? Due to my less then optimal modding skills mine doesn't screw all the way down into the tube of my micra. It rests on the inner lip of the battery tube, but there is a gap between the upper end of the tube and the Capsule. I can actually get a perfect focus with an IMS reflector this way, so I thought the problem McCavazos is facing might result from the capsule being too short to get a proper focus with the ims reflector?

Yes the mccapsule is definatly shorter than the stock capsule. At first I had forgotten to remove the o-ring from teh stock capsule and put it on the mccapzusle. After I did that It moved teh mccapsule forward a little bit, but not much. I am using 5 peices of paper around the LED to help with the focus, but its still slight out of focus. If I add another ring of paper, it goes out of focus the other way. I would really like a beam similaar to that of my Q-III, which I guess that I would get with a textured reflector. IF there is anyone in the DFW area that would be willing to help me, that would be greatly appreciated!
