These neat little gadgets would be perfect save for a glaring flaw. They are dim as a maglite, 12-45 lumens tops. I wonder if you could mod them with a real high power led like a now defunct sst-50 or maybe an MC-E or I bet even an R2 is brighter. I just can't find any info on any makes as to what type of led is in them, since they don't advertise the brand it's probably a no name "power" led. Anyone know more about how the guts are arranged? So if I do jump in and buy on I'd know a little more before dissecting and replacing the led module.

Keep in mind projector lamps are usually focused specifically for the projector. Just sticking an led with an emitted pattern of nearly 180 degrees and you won't get any more light output let alone even lighting over the image.

That is 25-40 lumens out the front of the projector, not from the LED. Projectors are normally inefficient hence the input maybe 5-10 times more.
