Hi all,

Ive just purchased a Microblue light for my forensic use - if you havnt heard of these look here:

I also got the TurboBlue head, which concentrates the output

When i tested the light it was a little dissapointing - i have taken some pics of the output and there is a really irritating ring.

As you can imagine looking for bodily fluids with this annoying ring is just another added pain - What i wanted to ask you guys is, is there any way for me to get rid of this ring and distribute the light more softly? (by means of adding an attachment to the front??)

LDF (light diffusing film).

Satin Scotch tapes works well (not clear or Matte finish).

The "write rite" film you use on PDA's also works okay.

Thanks, I could then simply stick the film on the front of the TurboBlue unit - it has a circular lens on the front which is about an inch in diameter.

Yep, just cut to fit. I find film diffusers easier to apply if you cut a rough over-sized piece, put it on the light, and use a sharp knife to trim the circle out as it rests on the lens.

If you look around the house, there are also other options. The frosted section of the thin CD jewel cases also works quite well.

Its pretty good and very portable, for a large alternative light source for forensics your looking at hundreds/thousands of dollars. But this little thing does the job pretty well.

This is not a blacklight, this is 465nm for semen, saliva, urine, and also blood which appears black, it can show bruising, bitemarks, and also some fibres.

That's the Streamlight Stylus and the Sharp Spot if I'm not mistaken and that "TurboBlue" head sells for like 5 bucks under Streamlight's name. It uses AAAA batteries right?

Yes its VERY similar to the streamlight stylus - but they dont do this wavelength (to my knowledge) - yes it uses those thin AAAA batteries.

Now that youve reminded me of the Streamlight Sharp Spot - might be a good ideal to try that on here and see the difference.

Anyone have any output photos of a Streamlight Stylus with a Sharp Spot?

The Sharp Spot has the same beam as the Turboblue.
