Hi everybody,

Just bought a microfire K3500 for a few days and encounter a few problems:
1. Runtime is around 40 minutes after charged;
2. Is there any signals when the power is used out?

Thanks for any inputs!

Joe

Hi Joe,

I'm typically getting 50-55 minutes with mine.

I'm not sure what you mean by "power used out" but maybe it's a language issue. I try to answer anyways.

If you mean, is there a warning before the lights shuts off, no not really. It may flicker a few times before turning off but usually mine just shuts off without flickering.

If you mean, how will you know when the battery is no longer working properly, you'd have to test the battery voltage after charging it. If you just recently purchased the light it should be under warranty, correct?

Hi Patriot 36,

Thanks for your input.

Yes, I'm asking if the light is going to shut down, does it show any signals e.g. flicker. If my torch flicker, is it necessary to shut it off immediately?

Regarding the battery, I have disassemble the battery from the torch accidentally several times when I tried to adjust the focus while the torch was turned on. Does it cause harmful effect to the torch?

Thanks again for your input and please forgive my poor English.

Joe

As long as you don't keep repeating the process in a short time it should be fine (I mean don't make it like strobbing effect, as it will kill the ballast). The best practise is to turn it on at least 3 mins before turning it off again to ensure the longetivity of the ballast.

Hope this helps

No problem with the English Joe. It's actually quite good. :)

If you're torch flickers, yes, you should turn it off right away.

If you accidentally turn the light off while adjusting your beam it shouldn't hurt the light but I'd still be careful not to do it too often. Maybe try a larger o-ring that provides more friction for the battery compartment or use some black electrical tape at the battery to head seam if you know you're going to adjust the beam a lot. Microfire user instructions do not address hot re-strikes but it's probably best to wait for at least a minute before turning the light back on.

Actually, I stop adjust the focus when the torch is turned on after the previous "accidents".

In the Chinese manuals I got, they do mention hot restrike but recommend that
1. Turn the torch on at least 1 minute before shut it off;
2. Restart your torch at least 3 seconds after shut off.

If the torch flicker, I would turn it off immediately, just sometimes I can't distinguish whether it is flicker or just I don't have a pair of steady hands.

This is my first HID and I really like it.

Thanks for your inputs.

The one I have was very tight to focus the beam so I pulled it apart and found that both the thread and o'ring where totally dry. I used some teflon grease on them and it works beautifully now, I can focus it without worrying about unscrewing the battery.

I never did take mine all the way apart but I probably should. Although it's better that it was, mine is still tight.

My 3500 is not holding a charge longer then 30 minutes. Must be a battery issure which seems to be the issue with every HID flashlight I have owned.

That kinda stinks. I'm getting at least 50-55 minutes out of mine, which is about how long I walk at night. Usually it's still running when I finally turn it off when I reach my front door.

Is yours under warranty?

Not sure if it's under warranty. I charged it again fully last night and will see how long it works 2nite. I Know its not 50-55 minutes tho. I would be happy with 40 minutes at this point. My Wolf-Eyes had the same issues.

I believe I remember reading some of your comments about battery balance issues with the Boxer too. That's too bad....you seem to be having all the "luck" with batteries. Hopefully your dealer will work with you on that though.

I know my luck with batteries is not very good. I don't think im gonna spend any more money on any lights until the new Polarian model comes out. Considering that will be probably over $1k.

After the "warm up" period, I get 45 to 49 minutes after charged.

Patriot36: You are so lucky that your 3500 comes with a smooth reflector & a good battery.

I really lucked out on the reflector and hope that the battery keeps performing well too. Sometimes I really wonder about these compact chinese lights and how long they're going to last.......

Same here with mine! With the first battery, the light only lasted for aprox. 30 minutes...Then i ordered annother battery here from a local dealer. Now i´m just two minutes short of the expected runtime...:D

Regards...
