I was in Radio Shack yesterday. Among the stuff I grabbed was a Kryton mini bulb.
I first tried it in my Craftsman 2AA. That light has a bigger bulb than a mini, but no real problem. With that bulb it threw a beam so terrible that I couldn't tell how bright it was.
I tried it in my Mini Mag with only slightly better results.
Sigh! Then I put the stock bulb back in the mini, making sure to keep my fingerprints off. After a few seconds it blew. The extra bulb in the tailcap is only somewhat better than the Rat Shak bulb. SIGH!!!!
Lastly, whatever bulb the Mini ends up with... it gets a CLICKER Tailcap. It sucks having to ruin whatever beam refinment you can eek out every time you turn the light off!
Final score. The Craftsman throws an artifacty beam with a decent, reasonbly bright center. Doesn't really need modding (but who can resist?).The Mag needs more bulbs to try (maybe LED after all?) and most definetly a TAILCAP Switch! The bulb in it has a center beam with a curly tail. I've seen what the mag CAN do, so it ain't a lost cause!
