I've got a nite-ize drop in that I'm having problems with. I have to keep taking the mag head off and twisting the drop in module until it goes on again. When I put the mag head back on the light works for a few twists and then does not. Any quick fixes? If not, then I am looking at the Terralux TLE-20 or the Terrallux Ministar 2. I like long battery life and don't need that much output for this light. The TLE-20 puts out 20 lumens and has an 18 hour battery life and I am assuming this is semi-regulated. It also has a 20,000 hour led life, which seems oddly short these days. Any recommendations on any of these two drop ins. Also, are there any of the more efficient (cree, etc.) , mini mag drop ins on the market?

Thanks,

The Cree or Seoul drop-in will be the brightest, and the Niteitz or SmJLED would be the longest running.

With your parameters in mind, I would choose the SmJLED drop-in.

I'm having a little trouble picturing the problem you describe. Is this the standard 3x5mm led Nite-Ize drop-in module that can be had at WalMart for $5? Are you saying the drop-in module is coming loose, or that it is staying in and you have to twist the module and switch/recepticle assembly to make it work, as if there is some sort of bad connection or something? If you have to twist the switch assembly, there might be a bad connection or some corrosion present. If this is the case, remove the drop-in module, remove the plastic piece under the drop-in module, and inspect the connections that the module plugs into. You might need to clean up the piece of metal that makes contact with the body of the Minimag with some sandpaper or emery board, look at the contact that the + tip of the battery hits too.

I have MiniMag LED drop-in modules from Terralux, Opalec, Nite-Ize, Dat2Zip and Inretech. The Terralux's are very high quality, but the Nite-Ize is one of my new favorites because it is such a good deal at less than $5. Haven't had any problems with Nite-Ize module, and I plan to purchase several more.

I have a smjled from lighthound I use every night for walking the dog, I get way more than 18 hours run time that you are currently getting. for $6 you cant go wrong.

I'll take apart my Nite-ize and take a closer look. I know that the Terralux TLE-20 is semi-regulated. Is the smjled?

I am not sure, but I can tell you that mine has over 20 hours of use so far and the brightness is only a little dimmer than my wifes minimag with smjled, that has only been used about 1 hour
