Before they came out they were highly anticipated and now I notice they are not even on the shelf anymore at Wally world. Were they a bust or is something better coming out from them? Thanks, just wondering cause I bought several and have seen them discounted and was wondering if I should get a couple more or wait.

I have a 2xAA Mag LED and it works reasonably well but my opinion is that they came out too late. They would have been nice flashlights except that Fenixes and Lumapowers, etc...... simply overshadowed them with a better performance, better beam, better runtime, you name it...

As to the general public standpoint, Mag LEDs were sold in large stores for a while because they were new but then the public probably thought they were too expensive for a MagLite and so the sales dropped.

just use the search function and read some of the posts very early this, or (better) of the end of last year, if You are really interested.
I dont want to type that HUGE list of arguments against them again and again and again.

In short: they suck
(but at Your place they are "cheap" at least. Cost € 55,-- and 65,-- here)

That's all the answer you need -- its too expensive. Walmart shoppers don't read CPF to decide what to buy so all the technical issues are irrelevant. The only reason to buy a Maglite instead of the Dorcy right beside it for half the price would be the little american flag and if they cared to buy american, they wouldn't be in Walmart in the first place.

Here in Canada they are even more expensive($37), but I got one on sale for my wife's glove compartment. With lithium AA (non-rechargeable) its bright, lasts for a long time, has variable flood or spot and works just the way she expects a Maglite to work.

Judging by Fenix's crossover, I'd expect a new version with a Rebel LED and longer run times sometime soon. Why wouldn't they ?
