Mk1 Hope LED internal photos

is that a vision 2? Picture 5 looks like some kind of quad die LED,would have expected it to be a cree/p4

I haven't seen that LED before. I wonder if it's a clone of the MC-E? Or something else?

Its what is now the vision 2. Its the 300lm version, one of the very early ones as it has the old type battery connectors. I thought it used Luxeon LEDs at this stage. The new version is 480lm I think.

I'm hoping at some point I can swap the LEDs out for something with either more power, or better efficiency.

Can you measure driver output voltage and current ?

Some other version of this lamp :

The led on the right looks to have a bad case of humidity rash. The epoxy has reacted badly with moisture and fractured the epoxy, probably during initial manufacture, I would complain to Hope. The led looks to be a LEDENGIN 5 watt led so you maybe able to buy a replacement if they dont come good

Should be able to. Have reassembled the light now but will be messing with a battery pack at some point so can try then. Will try an get measurements at each of the 3 settings.

Whats the best way to measure current on a circuit like this? AM I going to need to break the circuit so the current passes through the multi meter (for example by unsoldering the connection to the first LED)?

Right, the driver seems to put out 700ma on high, 270ish on medium and 140 on low. Voltage is 7.4V. See my other thread for plans to put 2 cree mc-e leds in here
