Would it be possible to change a Novatac 120P's lens to a higher-grade one? Say, Saphire crystal, or such? How?

I know virtually nothing about modifying lenses, so, bear with me.

Absolutely... if you can get your bezel off.

All that is required is to remove the bezel and than switch the lens out. sapphire crystal is available from the Sandwich Shoppe and UCL's are available from Lighthound.

The lens is the same size as the lens for the PD and the HDS EDC lights.

Changing lens on the novatac's is really easy just remove the bezel and the lens will drop out .You might have to tap the light if it does not come right out. However, some of the bezels have locktite on them and are a real pain to get off.Try to take it off with your hand or push it up against a piece of rubber a mouse pad works good to and see if it will turn.

Um, polycarbonate lens, which is quite sucky. I'd like a saphire-crystal sized lens. How might one find one?

And, I see the "UCL" lens on Lighthound. What is UCL?

Ultra Clear Lens. Sapphire crystal is restrictive and expensive ($20)compared to UCL or even the plastic lens that comes with the light. It blocks about 10% of the light produced, UCL about 1%.

Under what conditions, other than with a light meter, can you detect a 9% change in light output?

Until you drop it and the UCL shatters!!
Novatac chose the poly for people like me, it will scratch, but is prety much indesructable!

The stock lens is quite efficient. My lightbox saw only a 5% differece compared to the UCL.

The key is whether or not you can easily remove the bezel.
IF you can put the bezel into the meat of your palm apply pressure TWIST and have the bezel release then you will have smooth sailing.
If the bezel does not release in this way then you have another thing coming.
There is another thread discussing the 120 P where the guys have broken out MAJOR tools and have NOT been able to loosen the bezel.
NovaTac has begun to use an ultra strong adhesive...making it all but impossible and NOT worth the effort required.

If you do get the Bezel off the UCL is a fine choice for replacement.

Speaking for myself, if I have a 400hp engine and a cheap mod will give me a 9% increase in power, I'll do it. It's about performance for me. :)

That's 36HP. If you can do that for $6 on a car I'd be all over that.

$6 to get all the light you can out of a light isn't bad. There's worse ways to waste $6, like getting that breakfast burrito you'll regret later.
