I am pondering having this done.

1.) Is it is sin to have work done to this Grail light? I love the light but I would kinda like a different beam in it.

2.) What will fit in the reflector and can the driver be reprogrammed or replaced? I would love a neutral XM-L for a nice floody beam with the two modes at something like 20 and 200 lms. Can it be done?

3.) Who's a good candidate for the job if I do it at some point?

Thanks :)

I would think a message or email to Datiled is in order... Many PD lights have passed through his capable hands, and he can more than likely answer your questions... :)

I replaced the Luxeon 3 in mine with...whatever the last model of Luxeon was. I can't remember the name anymore. The one with the square plastic carrier. It was a big improvement. I did have to grind the carrier into a roundish shape before it would fit, though.

nbp- There are undoubtedly others who have successfully modded PD type heads, but Datiled's track record speaks for itself. :) To answer one of your other questions to the best of my understanding, the low level drive level is what it is, whereas the high can be bumped up or down as needed, within reason. I had actually asked Derek about lowering the low on the last mod he was kind enough to undertake for me, and it was a no-go, up or down...
