I have an old energizer double barrel flashlight (http://www.coolflashlights.com/Holiday_Specials.htm) that I would like to modify with a cree Q5. This flashlight takes 4 AAA cells paired up in two's and run in parallel (ie. output voltage of 3V, but double the current or a single cell).

Would this set up be possible without overdriving the LED (I would like to stick to around 750mA max)? The head on this flashlight is not aluminum either, so I would need to find a way to dissipate the heat too.

Regulator from DX http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4735
Cree Q5 from DX http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2394

Thanks!

The head on this flashlight is not aluminum either, so
You found the "NO" of this light as a host
+
AAAs are just a tad smaller but way less powerful than AAs
(if using 2 strings with 2 each of the cells, You will get some 30-40 mins of light)

Actually it has been done. Go to <flashlightreviews.com> and click on "MODS". You'll find a couple led double barrel modifications.

I too have one of these that I would like to mod. Let me know how it turns out.

Thanks,

Michael
