Well, I finally got an Aleph II head and three LE's. So far I have built 2 of them. One is a TYOL and the other is a 1watt RED. They are both direct drive. The reason I do everything direct drive is my soldering skills are nearly non-existent. I tried soldering a Downboy board once and ruined a $40 board. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif But I can solder the wire to the LED without too much destruction.

I run the TYOL off a R123. 800ma fresh off the charger.

The RED 1 watt runs 450ma on a fresh 123. Yall were right. The RED is very bright. I've never had a RED LED before. This is a shot under my desk. Nice coffee warmer.

Of course, in the future, I'll have too add a few more Light Engines in various flavors and an Aleph I and III head. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is this one of the neqw super-bright red Luxeons?
And how bright is it compared to the TYOL at 800mA?

This is an old 1 watt low dome. I cant compare the two side by side. Only have one battery tube. The TYOL seems brighter though.
