Wanted a green LED flashlight and headlamp, just because.
Saw green flashlights at Bass pro shops, picked one up(SL sidewinder(defect/returned), then SL buckmaster). Saw the green led headlamps, was going to pick one up, but they were too bulky.(already had the H501W, no way am I going back to bulky headlamps).

I simply emailed ZL asking if it was possible to swap emitters in their headlamps, or if they would custom make me a green led 501. They quickly replied that it wasn't "possible" to swap emitters, but they could make me a green led 501. I was immediately onboard. (I initially emailed them on 5-21-10, payed on 6-2-10, recieved today 6-19-10)

they told me it would take 4 weeks(since they had to order the green led), I recieved it in a little less than 4 weeks.

it cost me $5(since they had to get the green led) more than a regular 501 and came with all the same accessories. EDIT: the Green LED 501 I have has the 501R(red) UI, which I believe is the same UI in the "NEW UI" 501 also. My 501W is the "old UI"(no moon mode)

I did ask what exact green LED emitter I have, they did not respond yet. I'll update if they respond, but Im happy with the green I got.(not yellowish, not too bright of green, not too dark.... just right IMO, but I do have limited experience)

point of this thread is to:
1) show off my green led 501
2) figure out if anyone else has one(specifically green)... or do I have the FIRST(and only) green led H501?
3) let others know that ZL will accept special requests(or try). and are a solid company to do business with.

the green 501 is on the right in all pics(I think), along side the ZL501W,the Dorky is in their because I found it laying around literally on the floor.(its not mine).

Very interesting!!! This is the first green Zl light I have seen. What is it called, H501G?

I will ask them to make me an H51 with XP-G warm.

Thanks for the information.

wow, I had no idea they did custom jobs... great info, thanks. An SST-50 H60 would be unbeatable if it could be done.

Any specific reason you decided on green?

That's awesome! I'm willing to bet the LED is the XR-C, that's what the red Zebra has. I'd love an amber ZL.

David, keep us updated on how this request goes...I'm interested in the same light.

no specific reason- I like the green better than red for "preserving" night vision.

wow nice to know zebralight is willing to do custom orders.
did you contact zebralight of america (zebralight.com) or zebralight in china?

H51 with neutral or warm XP-G would be great. i passed on the H31w because i want the floodly beam of the XP-G. so im waiting for the H31F.

keep us posted.

You can tell from the close-up pics that it is an XR-E. There are 4 wires and 3 sections of phosphor on the die. The XR-C has only 2 wire and 1 phosphor in the die.

Cheers,
Nova

Ah, looking at Cree's site, they do make green (blue and royal blue as well) XR-E's, but no red, red orange or amber.

sounds like you know what you are talking about, I'll go with that, it must be an XR-E.

side note: I got 1hr 25min on High until light started flashing. I was using a eneloop. Voltage started at 1.32, ended at 1.02 immediately after the flashing.

just got an email back from ZL stating that they are waiting for cree to mass produce neutral tint XP-Gs. then they will be using them for their "w" version lights:popcorn::thumbsup::rock:

 That does mean we can expect neutral XP-G for the other brands models too!

i've been interested in adding a green LED of some sort to my collection (Inova X5, Surefire Aviator green, etc...)
however, I am thinking I'd buy and have regrets about "why did I buy a green light?"
I kinda like the green light, it looks like "Area 51-ish" , or "X Files-ish", alien looking green glow.

how do you feel about owning a green LED?

haven't checked this for a second...
I don't have any regrets about the green LED. It depends what you use it for. I like it better than red for preserving NV. (red is better, but I can't see that well using red).

If I was down to my last $50 for flashlight budget, I would probably not go with a green unless was satisfied with my other lights.

I don't think you'll have regrets..... red will be better for preserving NV, if thats what you're after(NV preservation) and can see enough using red, I'd go with red.

Next green led light I get will be: SF Aviator, or mod my Quark with a green LED.
