I’ve been back visiting this forum for a little while now, and reading about all kinds of interesting mods. But after seeing Charlie’s (Mr.Bulk) latest small wonder the Baby Pin, and how it performed, I just had to make me a new small killer pocket torch. So I figured I would use my lonely E1e that just never gets used but always liked for its size and bullet proof feel. Though the KL1 head resides on it, I really like the look of the E1e with its stock incandescent bezel and hey, the smaller the better right? So I decided I would mod the stock bezel since it’s more to my liking.

Here is the E1e HD among friends.

Okay enough rambling, ill get to the mod. Like specking out a racecar, I went with a R2H HD, Bad Boy 700mA board, and the new Fraen Low profile optics. I then bored the stock bezel out so the Fraen would drop in and be perfectly centered. Last was making myself a heatsink coupled with a McGizmo Ecan.

Well after all assembled, the results were far better that I imagined! This thing simply killed all of my other 1Watts and found myself in the backyard doing throw comparisons with my G2! Yes, it actually comes close!

Here is a beam shot from 7 feet comparing the E1e HD to my L4 on the left, and Arc LSH-P right. The pic really doesn’t show how much more of an intense hot spot the E1e HD has. Like most say, the Low Pro Fraen has no side spill but makes up for that drawback in brightness and throw.

In all, this was a fun little project that I just can’t stop playing with. This light will defiantly be my EDC as of now (Or until I build something brighter). I also want to thank the modder’s here like Mr.Bulk, McGizmo, Wayne (@Elektrolumens), Wayne (@Sandwich Shoppe) and other contributing modder’s on this forum that make projects like this possible by offering components and sharing ideas and findings. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

WS6mro,

That's really a nice mod! Cool! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I had to go to a little trouble to see the images though. Perhaps you can delete the garbage at the end of the urls so the images will show?

Nice! I especially like how the heatsink is a bucket so more of it comes in touch with the bezel. very neat stuff.

Nice work Matt!

Thanks guys! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It was late last night when I posted and didn’t realize the pic problem. I just changed the URL’s so hopefully the images will show now.

Don,
Your Ecan worked great! I usually like to make everything out of aluminum, but always struggle with the grounding of the board. The Ecan made assembling this mod a breeze, and after filling the can with thermo epoxy, it seems to sink heat just fine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Ailsnail,
Another reason for the rim around the luxeon was to establish the proper LED to optics stack-up. I could have also made the heatsink in two pieces with a spacer as a stop, but just decided to make it one piece for better thermo management.
